Dear Parents,

 My name is Monika Chopay, and I am your child's ENL (English as a New Language) teacher. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and share a little bit about my background and experience.

I have been working as an ENL teacher since 2014 and have been a part of the Elwood school community since 2015. Throughout my time at Elwood, I have had the opportunity to work with students from kindergarten to eighth grade. This year, I am excited to be working with ELL students from grades 3 and 4.

I am fluent in English and Polish. When I was 12 years old, my parents and I moved to the United States from Poland. At that time, we did not know any English. This personal experience of being an ELL student and the daughter of two immigrants has shaped my passion for teaching ENL. I understand the challenges and emotions that come with learning a new language and adapting to a new culture. I am here to support your child in their language acquisition journey and to provide a nurturing and inclusive environment.

I want you to know that I am here for you and your child. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any concerns or questions you may have. I am more than happy to assist you in any way I can. Additionally, I want to assure you that you can reach out to me in any language you prefer to use. Communication is essential, and I want to make sure we can effectively communicate and address any needs or concerns.
