The James H. Boyd Student Council consists of an elected group of students. Each classroom at James H. Boyd elects two students to represent their class in the school-wide Student Council. BOTH of these students are part of Student Council and BOTH should represent their classroom, our council, our school, and our community. When voting for Student Council members, we encourage the students to look beyond who their friends are and to truly think about which students will work the hardest and be the most responsible. We are always very pleased with the way elections are conducted and the enthusiasm and responsibility demonstrated by all our Boyd students during Student Council activities.
As the adviser to Student Council, I try to emphasize the fact that we have an opportunity to use Student Council to make our school and community a better place. One way we do this is by raising money for charities and other funds that help different people in all different situations.
In the past we have raised money to help a variety of charities, including the Leukemia Society's Pennies For Patients Program. Through our fund-raising efforts over the past few years we have been able to collect over $29,000 for this very worthwhile charity. Besides helping out with important causes around our community and nation, Student Council also helps out here at James H. Boyd.
With all of the programs we participate in and all of the worthy causes we contribute to, another aim of Student Council is to make life at James H. Boyd fun for the students. To do this, we will sponsor several theme days throughout the year. In the past, theme days have been some of the most memorable days here at Boyd. Some possibilities include Pajama Day, Sports Day, Elwood Day, etc.
