Welcome to English 8!

This year we will be reading a broad range of texts. We will explore and navigate through wonderful literature --fiction and nonfiction, poetry, and drama including Warriors Don't Cry and excerpts from Shakespeare's plays and sonnets. However, most reading choices will be made by the students with teacher guidance to match their personal interests and current reading level. Reading will be done both in and outside of class. Close and careful reading strategies will be learned and practiced all year. We will also be working hard to strengthen our research and writing skills. Students will learn how to make strong evidence-based claims, increase their level of analysis, use and analyze writing techniques/craft moves in addition to improving their knowledge of vocabulary and rules of grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and usage.
