To be eligible for the Elmwood Show and Sale, a FFA or 4-H member must belong to a FFA or 4-H in Elmwood, Brimfield, Williamsfield, Yates City, and the Farmington school district.

  1. Records must be kept on all calves and be certified by an adult sponsor. These records must be up-to-date as of September 1 for FFA and August 1 for 4-H.

  2. Calves must be weighed the Friday of the Fall Festival between 4:00 and 4:30. Calves must weigh at least 1,000 pounds.

  3. All calves must be part of the student’s FFA or 4-H project. The calf must be shown at one other show before the Elmwood Show. Any FFA, 4-H or County Show will count.

  4. The member must nominate a steer at the Peoria or Knox county weigh-in in February. You may nominate an unlimited number, but only show ONE.

  5. All calves MUST BE STEERS AT THE WEIGH-IN and weigh 400 pounds.

  6. Scales will be provided at both weigh-ins.

  7. If you sell at any other FFA/4-H event or another sale, it is not eligible for Elmwood.

  8. Tags are no longer used, but tattoos will be checked if deemed necessary.

  9. The entry fee, based on expenses, MUST be paid at the time of weighing in or the individual will not be weighed.

  10. Exhibitors are expected to and will sell their steers at this show. If a football games interferes, someone else may show or sell the steer.

  11. Sale order will be as follows:

    1. Grand Champion

    2. Reserve Grand Champion

    3. Champion Rate of Gain

    4. Reserve Rate of Gain

    5. Senior Showmanship

    6. Junior Showmanship

    7. The rest of the steers will be placed by the committee

  12. Steers must weigh 1000 pounds to be sold.

  13. The Show will start at 5:00 p.m. and the Sale at 6:30 p.m. the Friday of Fall Festival.

  14. Each exhibitor is eligible for only one show following their High School Graduation.

  15. The name of the exhibitor and calf weight must be posted by the owner at the time of the sale.

  16. Trophies for Grand Champion, Reserve Grand Champion, Rate of Gain and Reserve Rate of Gain will be presented at the show along with chairs for the Senior and Junior Showmanship. Anyone is eligible for the Showmanship award.

  17. Each exhibitor must see the person who buys their steer in order to know what to do with the steer after the sale. The steers are expected to be delivered to the buyer in the same condition as sold.

A. Each participating club must be represented by a club leader at all steer show meetings.


B. FFA and 4-H clubs are entitled to have one club calf each year of the sale. Calves must be broken to lead and follow the rules of the Show & Sale.


C. Each exhibitor is allowed to show and sell one steer.


D. All complaints must be taken up with the steer show council. Fifty dollars (non-refundable) must be presented at the time. A decision will be made by the council and that judgment will be final
