TLLP is the abbreviation for Tandem Language Learning Project, a joint exchange research and educational program being carried out between Hokkaido University’s Graduate School of International Media, Communication and Tourism Studies / Research Faculty of Media and Communication and the White Rose East Asia Centre (WREAC) located at the University of Sheffield and University of Leeds in England. Now University of Helsinki, University of Melbourne, Victoria University of Wellington and Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf join the program.
The TLLP Project has the following objectives:
Creation of a mutual research and exchange network inclusive of both faculty and students;
Mastery of the academic foreign language skills (presentation and discussion/debate) necessary to engage in and accomplish research in the target foreign language.
The following three components comprise the TLLP educational program:
Online Tandem Learning, in which graduate students from each university pair up with one another to engage in international research exchange while simultaneously supporting each other’s acquisition of target academic foreign language skills;
Online Advice System, in which faculty provide ongoing academic support to the graduate student pair’s academic undertakings, and
Study Sessions, at which all members involved in the project meet up simultaneously online to engage in academic exchange and discussion.
