Writing & Interpreting Numerical expressions

ESSENTIAL UNDERSTANDING:

• Calculations with parentheses are evaluated first within an expression.

• Expressions can be written using words or symbols.

• It is acceptable to change the order of an expression. For example, "add seven and six, then multiply by two" mathematically would get the same answer as (6 + 7) x 2 or 2 x (6 + 7).
