A Poetic Pause is a collaborative project completed by several Crafting the Vision class members who chose to write poetry about sculptures found on the Elmira College campus. The goal was to combine poetry with images to share as an internet experience.
The information on the sculptures came from the former Elmira College archivist Mark Woodhouse. Students collaboratively discussed various elements of the sculptures to generate poetic ideas. Each student volunteered to write a poem about one sculpture. They are pleased to share their thoughts about the sculptures that we walk by everyday when rushing to classes, to dorms, to the library, or to the dining hall.
Nico Sackett '27 shared her thoughts about participating in the project. She said it was "a profound demonstration of the collaborative nature present whenever we envision art as a poetic inspiration."
All Crafting the Vision students created personal libraries of images by photographing with their camera phones or by collaging magazine images. They explored various writing exercises to understand imagery created with text alone. They eventually combined writing with image to create page layouts. The final class book was published on Blurb.com.
