Dramatic Duet Acting

In DDA, you work with a partner on a serious 8-minute piece. The acting is more raw than Humorous Duet Acting, and the topics tend to be heavier. It is such a learning experience to be a part of this event and to dig into places with acting you may not have in the past.

Dramatic Interpretation

In DI, you work on an 8-minute monologue that revolves around a more serious topic. You will dive into each part of the monologue and develop how your character would react. You then begin to build an emotional arc throughout the piece to portray when you perform.

Extemporaneous Speaking

Extemp is a limited prep event where you discuss politics and current events. You are given a prompt/question and have 30 minutes to write a 7-minute speech responding to the issue.

Humorous Interpretation

In HI, you are enacting an 8-minute comedy script written and published by an author. Using different voices, accents, and physicality, you bring to life multiple characters within your plot. It's a very fun and energetic event, great for those interested in trying something new!

Humorous Duet Acting

HDA is a super fun event where you perform an 8-minute comedy script with a partner building off of each other. You work on comedic timing and truly developing a piece. This event is full of laughs!

Impromptu Speaking

Impromptu is a limited prep event. Every round, you are given a prompt - a phrase or word - and have 2 minutes to form a 6-minute speech about that prompt. During the performance, judges will give you hand signals to show how much time you have left to speak.

Informative Speaking

In Info, you write and perform an 8-minute piece that's meant to inform the audience about a topic of your choice. Unlike the other public address events, Info is entirely objective. Even so, personality and humor are welcome! This is great for anyone who loves to both learn from and inform the people around them.

Original Comedy

In OC, you are enacting a comedy script written by YOU. You get to write an 8-minute, humor-filled story with an engaging plot and multiple characters. This event is very similar to Humorous Interpretation, the only difference being that the script is written by yours truly.

Original Oratory

In OO, you write and perform an 8-minute piece on a topic of your choice. While you can take the speech in any direction you'd like, OO's are usually persuasive, conveying a well-developed message to the audience through personal anecdotes, research, humor, or any other technique you'd like to try!

Oratorical Declamation

Dec is a public address event in which the performer gives an 8-minute speech written by someone else. The speech must be published and in print and typically have motivational themes.

Poetry

In Poetry, we take published poetry and create a program that is about 8 minutes-long. It is a book event, which means that you will be reading your piece from a book in your hand and will learn proper technique for handling your book during the performance.

Prose

Prose is an event where the speaker performs a published story while utilizing a book/binder. The performer uses diction, facials, and gestures to convey their narrative to the audience.

Radio Speaking

In Radio, you write an original radio script using timely local, national, and international news stories, staying within a 4:50-5:05 time length. When performing, you will read your script through a microphone, while a judge listens from a separate room.

Special Occasion Speaking

In SOS, you write and perform an 8-minute original piece for a simulated audience. This is a public address event that balances humor and persuasion, so it's a great choice if you want to make people laugh while also conveying a meaningful message.
