When will we be notified if we've been chosen to be a facilitator?
-A facilitator will only be responsible for initiating introductions and generating conversations, therefore, the EdCamp committee will email those chosen as facilitators during the week of February 11, 2019.
Where will it be held?
-This year we will have 3 venues. The kindergarten-2nd grade teachers will meet at Lockley Primary Center. The 3rd -6th grade teachers will meet at Union Middle-High School. The high school teachers will be meeting at Neshannock High School.
Are we doing this every year and if so will the location rotate?
-We would like to make this EdCamp an annual event and rotate host schools.
We may be dealing with inclement weather that day, particularly for staff members that are traveling a distance.
-If we have inclimate weather we will deal with it that day. We will adjust accordingly.
Are we going to be split up in departments? Math with all Math teachers, Arts with Arts teachers?
Yes, the first EdCamp Session, you will be given time to meet in department/grade levels.
What brought about the use of County wide in-service day?
-This is a combined effort between each School District Superintendent in Lawrence County.
When is this and is it required for all Lawrence County teachers?
-The Lawrence County Edcamp is on Friday February 15, 2019, an in-service day for all Lawrence County teachers.
How many people are in each discussion group?
-We would like to have discussion groups no larger than 25. There are no pre-signups for sessions. EdCamps have the “rule of two feet” If a session does not fit what you thought it would be you are free to leave and go to another session.
Can groups be narrowed to encompass areas of study ......i.e. social studies, math, English, or science?
-Sessions will be developed around topics and within each session, questions will be developed to stimulate conversation. There are no presenters, only a facilitator that volunteers to start the conversations. This is teacher led discussions and in-service.
I would like parking information for those teachers not familiar with the area. Is there sufficient parking in a designated lot?
-In discussions with Union, Neshannock and New Castle Superintendents, there should be sufficient parking. We encouraging carpooling if possible.
I teach 6-8 Learning Support, should I attend 7-12 or 3-6... Will there be the opportunity to attend both?
-You can decide based on the sessions that interest you the most. If at all possible, please stay at one EdCamp.
Is there anything we need to do to prepare ahead for this?
-No. You should come with an open mind and any questions that you have that you would like to discuss with fellow educators.
How many sessions will each person attend?
-Each teacher will attend four, 55 minute sessions followed by a brief wrap up.
What time is lunch?
-Lunch for the all Edcamps will be from 11:00-12:15 p.m.
How did EdCamp begin and how often will we participate in it?
-The EdCamp came about because of the superintendents deciding on a common inservice day. It was suggested that instead of having presenters that this should be educator driven and an EdCamp accomplishes that.
Who will be preparing and presenting information during this EdCamp?
-Nobody will prepare any information. Teachers come to the sessions with open minds and ready to discuss and ask questions of each other based on the session topic.
What are we expected to bring to the EDCamp?
-You can bring some type of device (laptop, iPad, Chromebook, etc…) and an open mid ready to discuss the topics with fellow teachers.
