This course is designed to build off of the skills mastered in English 10. Students will explore six thematic units consisting of fiction and nonfiction reading. Writing emphasis will be placed on argumentative, literary analysis, and explanatory/informative essays as well as synthesizing evidence from research. Students will enhance their speaking and listening skills through collaborative discussion, debate, and individual speeches. The grammar focus will concentrate on developing sophisticated sentence structure and using relatable comparisons.

If a student is to miss class, it is the student’s responsibility to request any late work from the teacher and any missed notes from a classmate. Students will be given additional time to complete an assignment if they have an excused absence.
Late work not related to absences will be accepted with a deduction of 25% for each school day it is late. Assignments with an odd number of points will be rounded down.
