Mascot

When Elkhart Central High School and Elkhart Memorial High School merged, the community and student bodies were mobilized to choose the name, colors, and mascot of the new high school. A committee of students, parents, staff members, and other community representatives undertook a massive project over 6 months to determine how best to serve all interests in finding a new identity. The Elkhart Community submitted hundreds of ideas the committee reviewed, processed, and paired down. Ultimately, the entire student body of Elkhart Community Schools (K-12) was involved in a voting process to pick what they wanted to be their new school. Elkhart High School was named, gold and blue were the colors of choice, and Lions was the winner of the new mascot.
