When air is in its natural state, it contains moisture, particles, micro-organisms, and gases. But when you compress it with a compressor, the concentration of these contaminants can increase by 6-10 times.
To make matters worse, the compression process also adds oil and metal traces to the compressed air. That's why it's important to filter out these contaminants and moisture before using compressed air in any application.

Refrigerated air dryers work by cooling the compressed air to between 1° - 5°C.
This can remove up to 99% of the moisture from your compressed air down to the set dew point.

Dessicant dryers operate through absorbtion of moisture through dessicant beads. Although more expensive this can remove moisture down to a dew point of -40°C.
