Technology Education 7

Introductory Letter

Subject: Technology Education Classes

Dear Students and Parents,

Welcome to the School Year 2023-2024. These classes are required by the state of New York, and the grades are calculated into each student’s final cumulative average for the year.

Students taking these classes will be exploring the evolution of technology from the earliest days of human interactions to the complex and ever-changing technological society we inhabit today. Lectures and projects will introduce the basics of technology, through the integration of Science, Engineering and Math, to give understanding to why these courses are included in the curriculum, and give hands-on exploration of how technology works to solve problems and make a profit.  I am looking forward to a productive year.

Weekly Schedule for Class:  Throughout the semester students will have projects and activities, and depending on the complexity of each assignment, may take days or weeks. During a typical week the class period will be split between lecture/discussion and projects/class work.

Quizzes: Quizzes will be given throughout the semester and will be open notebook.  These quizzes reflect how well a student is following the material in class, how organized they are, and their note taking abilities.

Tests: Several tests will be given during each marking period and are worth 100 points.  These tests are closed notebook, open mind.  The tests reflect a student’s  study skills.

Activities/Projects: are worth from 25 to 100 points.  The projects vary between individual and group assignments, and the grade is based on effort.

Class work:  This is work that is assigned and to be completed in class.  The work varies between individual and group assignments and the grade is based on effort.

Homework:  Homework is up to the student.  Most of the work assigned is designed to  be completed in class.  If a student is not using their time wisely then they must complete their work on their own time.

School Tool: Grades will be updated weekly.  Any zeros, or low grades (other than tests), can be made up until the end of the marking period.  If you do not have access to School Tool, or have any questions please contact your child's guidance counselor.

Sincerely,

Ms. Stringer  [ Stringerl@eldred.k12.ny.us]
