Keyboarding

Course Description

This course is designed to teach students the touch method of keyboarding on the computer. The main emphasis of the course is correct keystroking using proper techniques. Basic instruction in posture and technique, proofreading, speed development, punctuation rules, and introductory word processing concepts will be given. A general introduction to computer hardware and software will also be included.

Course Outcomes

· Demonstrate correct posture and position at the machine

· Demonstrate proper care of machines and equipment

· Demonstrate the correct “touch” system techniques for operating alphabetic keys

· Demonstrate the ability to work from typed, rough-draft, handwritten, and unarranged material

· Utilize shortcut keys

· Demonstrate the ability to proofread copy

· Use correct spacing with punctuation marks.

· Know basic computer terminology

· Use menu driven software

· Use a word processing program to write, edit, add graphics, save, load, and print documents

· Safely and properly use hardware and software
