English 9 - EHS

English Language Arts (ELA)

The learning activities in language arts classes will be designed for students to continue developing their communication skills for future academic success, as well as success after high school. All learning activities will address the 2017 Kansas Curricular Standards for Language Arts, and many will address the National Education Technology Skills for Students (NETS-S).

Areas of study include technical reading/writing, various modes of writing, English grammar/usage, English vocabulary, information literacy, and literature appreciation.

Course grades are figured using total points earned divided by total points possible. Grading scale is the standard:

A = 90-100%

B = 80-89%

C = 70-79%

D = 60-69%

F = 0-59%

Students have two calendar weeks from the day they return to school from an absence to turn in make up work for credit.

Students are expected to complete all assignments during class. For extra time, students may seek approval from Mrs. Slaton and/or come to her classroom during seminar to finish.

Students needing help in English are urged to come and see Mrs. Slaton during seminar or after school.
