Please consider being part of this unique approach to bringing new teachers of writing, reading, and other literacies into the fold. Hi! I’m Dr. Jill Parrott, Professor of English at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. I have a vision for this project that calls upon the personal teaching experiences of my fellow teachers and relies heavily on our collaboration with one another as we create, review, and publish this textbook for undergraduate or graduate new and future teachers.
Each chapter will be written in first person in jargon-free language as direct communication to our audience for the purpose of helping integrate the threshold concepts of our discipline into their own functional paradigm of teaching writing. Most textbooks available to us for “introduction to composition theory” courses are either heavily academic (for grad programs and our professional colleagues) OR are more rhetorics and readers for first-year writing. This book will bridge that gap to simply tell its readers what we do as writing teachers and how we learned to do it.
In addition, we will use open and collaborative review processes wherein contributors will have the opportunity to be part of this process either as a chapter writer, an open reviewer, or both!
As editor, my job is to
Recruit authors and reviewers.
Communicate expectations, deadlines, processes, and feedback clearly.
Keep all contributors on task and hold everyone accountable for the highest level of professional ethics.
Maintain the schedule for feedback and submissions.
Project manage design and publication.
Make sure as many people as possible know about our finished project!
