Grading Procedure
This year, your child will receive grades in the following academic subjects:
A. Reading
B. Language
C. Math
D. Science
E. Social Studies
F. Word work / Spelling
G. Writing
Grades for all subject areas are based on a 100-point scale. These grades will be obtained from class work, tests, and quizzes.
- In Reading, the grades for reading skills, comprehension, and vocabulary will be weighed equally.
- Language Arts grades will consist of grammar and spelling work, which will again be weighed equally.
- Writing papers will be assessed using focus areas. For each class assignment, the student will be asked to show his/her knowledge of three basic writing skills. Examples of the writing skills may include: main idea, 6 details, correct letter format, stated opinion, adjectives, etc.... A rubric is used to grade writing assignments.
- In Math, written assessments and fact assessments are graded equally. After the first ten lessons, these tests are given and graded after every fifth lesson.
- Grades for Social Studies and Science are mainly derived from class work. (i.e. worksheets, projects, quizzes, tests, etc.)
