Time & Death

  • Time flows in one direction from the past to the future. We do not have control to change that direction. So, in a sense we are forcibly driven towards the future. This is in contrast to our freedom and control over the direction of spatial movement.

  • The only way that allowed us the ability to measure time is the existence of regular processes in nature. That is, there are repeated patterns in nature such as the earth's rotation around itself and around the sun to form regular intervals. Another example is the crystal oscillations in watches and the pendulum oscillations in clocks.

  • Science is feasible and is fundamentally based on the existence of structure in nature. So, time measurement is interrelated to the possibility and emergence of science.

  • According to the special theory of relativity, the time measurement (time interval) of an event is relative and different according to the relative regular motion between different frames of reference.

  • Human life is always projected towards the future. The past is remembered, however, the future is not.
