Two Poems
Little Fishes Be Free
Three little fishes swimming in a pond
Yearning for the vast open sea.
“To be free,” they would chant, “To be free,”
One day little Red fish got that chance and she took it leaving little Blue and Green fishes behind.
Little Red fish would visit urging Blue and Green fish to come to the sea.
Green fish was wary.
Blue fish was eager.
They both tried to leave but had gotten stuck in a net.
Taken out to sea Blue and Green fish were separated.
Blue fish wasn’t so eager without Green fish there.
Blue fish hoped Green fish felt the same.
Blue fish missed Green fish and Red fish.
Blue fish missed the pond.
Blue fish wanted to be free……but Blue fish only felt lost in the vast open sea.
Counting Fingertips
Ten fingers up none go down.
I smile and laugh to make you all happy
I count the days left I’m around.
My jokes and puns are all quite sappy.
Please don’t let them see me frown.
Happy memories shared.
Nine fingers up, one went down.
Let you all know how much I cared.
My entire life acting like a clown.
Two fingers down, eight left up.
You must all think I’m a klutz.
My mind has gone corrupt.
Three fingers down, seven left up.
I am now bankrupt.
Six fingers up and four now down.
Concern glances thrown my way.
My blood seemingly a dark murky brown.
I hope I make it to another day.
Five fingers up, and five are down.
In peaceful silence I write out my will.
I pray my body never be found.
I am far now over the hill.
Four fingers left, six have gone away.
My skins gone pale.
I admit to the hospital I’m there to stay.
Never knew my body could be so frail.
Seven fingers gone, and three stand tall.
Wires and machines all hooked up to me.
Wary of the moment I’ll finally fall.
I tell them all to, “Please let me be.”
Two fingers made peace as eight had made themselves scarce.
Hearing had weakened along with my sight.
Pain made me scream myself hoarse.
Hopefully I’ll be gone come end of the night.
One finger left out of the others.
I close my eyes and sigh.
I just hope I wasn’t a bother.
With that done, I say goodbye.
