Investigating Trends in Computer Science Lesson
Beginning of class prompt:
“What’s a technology you use every day that didn’t exist when your parents were your age?”
Students journal briefly, then share out. As a class, generate a quick list of technologies/trends. Write responses on the board.
Group Activity – Investigate & Present (45 minutes)
Step 1 – Group Formation (5 min) Divide students into 5 groups (1 per trend).
Step 2 – Research (25 min) Each group investigates their assigned topic and answers:
What is the trend/technology?
How is it being used today?
Who benefits from it?
What concerns or ethical questions are raised?
How might it impact your generation’s future?
Provide links, videos, or brief articles as a starting point if needed.
Step 3 – Create a Short Presentation (15 min)
Groups prepare a 3-minute mini-presentation (visual optional) to summarize their findings. Encourage visuals, simple explanations, and real-life examples.
EXIT PROMPT: “Which trend do you think will have the biggest impact on your life? Why?”
Have students respond in writing or share out. Optionally, collect responses for assessment.
