Welcome

My name is Nicole Cassel and this will be my third year teaching General Science at Laguna Creek High School. I am looking forward to another wonderful year!

I grew up in Roseville with my mother, sister, and father. I attended Roseville High School where I participated in their dance program. I danced for most of my childhood. I have tried many different styles of dance but ballet is my favorite. I no longer dance but loved every minute of it while I did.

My mother is an elementary teacher and that is where my love of teaching came from. I grew up with an emphasis on the importance of education. While I was never sure about my ability to be an elementary school teacher, I was very sure that I wanted to work with older students.

After high school, I attended CSU, Chico where I received my Bachelors of Arts in Liberal Studies. I had chosen liberal studies because I thought it would lead to teaching in a high school. However, it did not. I was told halfway through that I would need to major in the subject that I wanted to teach in high school. Not wanting to spend another 2 years in college, I finished up my degree with an area of concentration in natural sciences. I was a substitute teacher for a few years after college to figure out what grade I wanted to teach. I quickly learned that I was correct the first time - I need to be teaching high school. After this realization, I did everything in my power to become a high school science teacher. I went to CSU, Sacramento to work towards getting my single subject teaching credential. After a long road, I was finally able to become a high school science teacher.

Now I live in Elk Grove with my family. I have two step daughters; Madison who is 10, Hailey who is 7, and my son Jake who is 5. My son will be attending preschool for the first time this year. All three kids have been very active in sports this year. They have all tried soccer and basketball, and Hailey dipped her toes in taekwondo last fall. We also have a dog named Barley, (a new addition this summer) Sirius Black, and two cats named Furry and Belle. We enjoy everything and anything outdoors. This summer we vacationed in Bodega Bay, the kid had swim lessons.
