Governor Gavin Newsom signed a new law on July 2, 2024, mandating California school districts, charter, and private schools with existing health classes to instruct high school students in the dangers associated with fentanyl use. The courses will be introduced in 2026 and will be mandatory for graduation.
Learning Targets:
Students will be able to define the medical and non-medical (illegal) uses of fentanyl and other opiate drugs.
Students will be able to identify and describe the physiological effects of fentanyl and other opiate drugs.
Students will be able to explain how to use Narcan (Naloxone) if someone is showing symptoms of opioid overdose.
