AVID is an in-school academic program that supports students for college eligibility and success. It prepares students for college by teaching them how to learn and behave as an individual in a school setting – they learn how to be organized, ask questions, take notes and be responsible for their own leaning and success. It also gives them a head start on College awareness and preparation.
Today, 95% of AVID students nationally are accepted into four-year universities. AVID students have a higher percentage of actually staying in college and receiving a bachelor’s degree. AVID works, and you can see it through all this data.
In the AVID elective we do A LOT OF WORK. It isn't a class that is easy or fun all of the time. Instead, it is a class that pushes students to learn and build their skills to help them be successful. It is a class where we take notes, ask questions, write, read, discuss and organize. We do have fun! We watch movies, play games, work on community. But we also do a lot of work to help us be the best student we can be.
