Instrumental Ensembles
Wind Ensemble 1 (College/Career Prep) Full Year / 1 Credit
An introductory ensemble for woodwind, brass, and percussion instrumentalists who have developed fundamental skills in middle school or an equivalent program. Students focus on ensemble balance, tone production, sight-reading, and performance skills while exploring a diverse repertoire of concert band literature.
Wind Ensemble 2, 3 & 4 (College/Career Prep & Honors) Full Year / 1 Credit
The Wind Ensemble course at East Greenwich High School is designed to cultivate students' technical proficiency, musical understanding, and ensemble performance skills through progressive study and practice. Students will explore diverse wind band repertoire, emphasizing instrumental tone, music reading, interpretation, and expressive performance. Through ensemble and solo opportunities, students will develop the ability to evaluate, refine, and present their musical ideas with technical and artistic accuracy. The course encourages participation in community events, music festivals, and solo/ensemble recitals while fostering connections between music, other arts, and everyday life. By the end of this course, students will be prepared to make informed, independent decisions as thinking and feeling musicians.
Jazz Ensemble 1 (College/Career Prep) Full Year / 1 Credit
An introduction to jazz performance, covering swing, blues, Latin, and contemporary styles. Students learn jazz articulation, phrasing, and improvisation while developing listening and ensemble skills. Concurrent enrollment in a wind ensemble or orchestra is required for wind, percussion, and bass players.
Jazz Ensemble 2, 3 & 4 (College/Career Prep & Honors) Full Year / 1 Credit
The Jazz Ensemble course at East Greenwich Public Schools offers students a comprehensive exploration of jazz performance and improvisation. This program focuses on developing technical proficiency, ensemble collaboration, and a deep understanding of jazz standards. Over a four-year cyclical program, students study and perform classic jazz repertoire, learning essential skills such as improvisation, chord analysis, transcriptions, and composition. With an emphasis on creativity, critical thinking, and cultural connections, the course prepares students to engage meaningfully with the art form while fostering a lifelong appreciation for jazz.

A foundational choral experience focusing on vocal technique, sight-singing, and ensemble performance.
Concert Chorus 2, 3 & 4 (College/Career Prep & Honors) Full Year / 1 Credit
The Chorus course at East Greenwich High School is designed to develop students’ vocal technique, musical literacy, and ensemble performance skills through a diverse selection of choral repertoire. Emphasizing healthy vocal production, pitch accuracy, blend, and expression, students will refine their musicianship while working collaboratively in an ensemble setting. Students will have opportunities to perform in concerts, community events, and festivals, developing confidence and artistry through both ensemble and solo singing. By the end of the course, students will have a stronger understanding of choral music and performance, as well as the ability to interpret and express music with technical and artistic accuracy.
