Mr. Hanson is in his eighth year at the Senior High and beginning his fifteenth year of teaching. He joined the staff of East Grand Forks Public Schools in 2016, teaching 6-8 choir and sixth grade classroom music at Central Middle School. Previously, he taught K-12 vocal music at Sleepy Eye Public Schools and K-6 classroom music at Tracy Area Public Schools.
Mr. Hanson directs the Varsity and Concert Choirs as well as the Pop Singers and teaches voice lessons throughout the day. He also teaches electives in guitar, piano, music theory, and music technology.
Mr. Hanson earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in music from the University of Minnesota, Morris in 2011 and a Master of Music in Music Education degree from NDSU in 2023. He has taught music at all levels K-12 (including beginning band), directed a church chancel choir, and led adult singing groups including a Sweet Adelines chorus and a men's chorus. He spent three summers working with the Minnesota All-State Lutheran Choir as a counselor, section coach, and assistant conductor. He has experience as a judge for MSHSL contests and as a festival guest clinician, and has led and assisted with numerous drama and musical theatre productions. He is a member of MMEA and NAfME.
