We held a school wide vote on Tuesday, June 19th. All students and staff got to vote for their name from a list of names Mrs. Willis & Mrs. Gibbs selected ahead of time. Being that we will not know the gender of our dog until late July, we chose all names that could be for boy dogs, or girl dogs! Mrs. Gibbs read all of the name on the morning announcements and explained why each name was on the list. Auggie was on the list because of the book Wonder. In the book Wonder, Auggie Pullman is born with severe facial differences. Because of this, his mother keeps him from school until 5th grade. All Auggie wants to do is blend in, but he learns that it's difficult to blend in when you are born to stand out! The 5th grade classes read Wonder every year at Bell Top. The story of Wonder comes with the message of "CHOOSE KIND" which we believe is a message that all students of all ages can understand. We will be incorporating this message throughout the school, with help from our very own Auggie!
We are not sure what Auggie will look like when he is full grown. However, we believe that he will probably look something like the dogs in the pictures below!
