Grading Practices

English Department Grading Practices

  • Each teacher will detail his or her grading practices on a course syllabus

  • Grading policies for participation and extra credit (if offered) will be clearly stated on each course outline

  • Writing Assignments and Projects will lose 10 points for each day past the original due date. After 3 days the assignment cannot earn a grade higher than 65%. After 5 days, the assignment cannot earn a grade higher than 50%, REGARDLESS OF QUALITY.

  • Late homework is only accepted at each teacher's discretion.

  • Plagiarism is a serious offense. If a student is found to be guilty of plagiarism, he or she will receive a zero for the assignment.

Freshman English Grading Practices:

  • 40% Writing

  • 30% Tests and Quizzes

  • 20% Homework/ Classwork

  • 10% Productivity/ Participation

Sophomore English Grading Practices:

  • 40% Writing/ Writing Projects

  • 30% Quizzes/ Tests

  • 30% Homework/ Classwork/ Participation

Junior English Grading Practices:

  • 40% Writing/ Writing Projects

  • 30% Tests/ Quizzes

  • 30% Homework/ Classwork/ Participation

Junior AP English Grading Practices:

  • 40% Extensive/ long writing assignments

  • 20% Shorter writing assignments

  • 30% Tests/ Quizzes

  • 10% Homework/ Classwork/ Participation

Senior English Grading Practices:
