Eldering 101 Episode 5 is HERE!
Eldering 101 is a video-based discussion for MWD church elders (or other leadership boards) to work on eldering better together based on 1 Timothy. We talked about this at the Transform Conference. With a short video introduction and your Bibles, dig into growing together as elders and developing a pipeline of future elders.
Invite elders, leaders, and future leaders. Each episode takes 1-2 hours, depending on how talkative you are!
Episodes 1-5 are now available here: https://www.efcamidwest.org/eldering101. We plan on releasing new episodes at least once a month, with a total of 13 episodes.

Preaching Gospels & Acts: Mark
Are you ready to connect with other pastors and sharpen your skills in understanding and preaching the Word? Join us for the upcoming Simeon Trust Workshop on Biblical Exposition. Few investments have a greater long-term impact on a pastor's ministry than growing in the faithful preaching of God's Word. While setting aside three days may feel costly in the midst of a busy ministry season, the fruit will extend far beyond the workshop itself. Every sermon you preach afterward has the potential to better serve and strengthen the people God has called you to shepherd.
These workshops include a combination of interactive instructional sessions, encouraging expositions, and small group sessions where participants present work they've done in advance on specific passages and work through it together.
Each preaching workshop focuses on a specific genre of biblical literature, and this year we’re excited to have Jon Dennis (one of the co-founders of Simeon Trust!) and Neal Patel leading the workshop. They will be exploring the Gospel of Mark and how to faithfully preach Gospels and Acts. You can read more about their ministries on the workshop page linked below. We’re confident this will be a meaningful opportunity to make progress together.
The workshop is October 21-23, 2026, at First Evangelical Free Church (1825 N. Woodlawn, Wichita, KS). If you plan to come, I’d encourage you to register early and take advantage of the early registration price; cost is $139 before September 14. After that, the cost goes up to $159.
Here’s the link to the workshop webpage where you can register or find more information about the workshop and how to prepare:
We hope to see many of you in October. Please feel free to reach out to me or our Lead Pastor Josh Black (jblack@firstfreewichita.org) with any questions you might have about the workshop.

It is a joy and a privilege to partner together across the Free Church to help connect and equip children's and family ministry leaders as we seek to grow in relationship with one another as interdependent churches who are biblical, missional, united, and free.
TEDS/EFCA Church Partnership Program
Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (TEDS) and the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA) share a profound history, a common theological heritage, and a unified commitment to the inerrant Word of God. Grounded in a shared Statement of Faith, this partnership is dedicated to equipping pastors and ministry leaders for gospel-centered ministry that serves local churches and impacts the world.
To support the local church, TEDS is offering a 25% tuition reduction available to all EFCA members across all TEDS programs, including certificates and online offerings.
As former Dean Kenneth Kantzer envisioned, TEDS was established to be "a unique divinity school" that meets critical global needs through the highest academic standards. Current Dean, Dr. David Pao echoes this ongoing, vital mission: "Trinity Evangelical Divinity School is boldly 'evangelical,' where faithfulness to the gospel of Jesus Christ is the center of our study, our reflections, and our practices.”

Website Feature: MAP
This month, check out our “MAP” page. "MAP" stands for Ministry Apprenticeship Program, which is a church-based design to develop future leaders in the church from within. Apprentices are not just for larger churches; you likely have a future leader in your church right now who needs more experience, education, and coaching. Check out the MAP page and then contact us if you want to find out more.

Thoughts to consider

I'm eager to see you all at the MWD annual conference called "Transform." We'll be at First Free Church in Lincoln on Sept 27-29. You can find out more about it elsewhere is this issue. There are a few particular items I want to point out:
The website. Everything about the conference can be found at http://efcamidwest.org/conferences. That also includes the videos from previous conferences. You can register here.
The new app. Everything you will need to navigate the conference will be in a mobile app called "conf.app." This will have the schedule, the speakers, the exhibitors, the reports, registration, and so on. All you'll need is the app. Use the conferences webpage above to see how to download it and use it. Pro tip: Once you get the app and link to our conference, scroll the agenda and put a star on each item you want to attend. That will then populate your "My Agenda" button that shows only the items you starred. That will make it much easier during the conference to know what's next. It's best to make your selections before the conference begins. (Note: we're still fine-tuning the content.)
Brandon Guindon. Our guest speaker was recommended to us by a pastor in the MWD. His focus will be on a disciplemaking culture starting with us. It's not a "how-to" set of tools, but it's about building culture. The Midwest District Foundation will be giving out copies of Brandon's book Intentional.
Ken Cooper. The MWD's own will lead the preconference Sunday night on Eldering and how to built trust and unity with your elders. I've observed one of the coaching sessions he has with future elders and believe that he has an effective, replicable set of practical ideas. There will be plenty of time for Q&A.
Preconference and your elders. The preconference Sunday night will be live and livestreamed. So if your elders can't make Transform in person, have them plan on getting some pizza and meeting together Sunday night to join the livestream. They'll be able to ask questions remotely. Then plan 30 minutes or so after the preconference for them to process what was covered in the session. We'll publish the links to the livestream soon.
Greg Strand. The EFCA Executive Director of Theology and Credentialing will address a current hot-button issue of complementarianism. That word describes a spread of practices. How does the EFCA hold its distinctives with respect to this topic?
Higher education. TEDS is the EFCA-affiliated seminary that we have always supported and continue to do so. We're glad they are joining us again this year and I'm sure many of you have questions for them about TEDS' new location. But not all MWD pastors are TEDS grads and TEDS is not the only good school. As the MWD has made agreements with other good schools, we're going to see a few more schools represented at Transform. Dallas Theological Seminary will join us and talk about the discounts available to MWD church staff members. We also have an agreement with Moody Online, but they will not be present at Transform. Central Baptist Seminary (Kansas City area) is another guest to Transform and will have a pastor-centric breakout session. Central Baptist? Don't we have some secondary theological differences with them? Yes, we do. But their counseling department that will be featured at Transform is more theologically aligned with EFCA because of the department's roots from MBTS.
I hope to see you there!
