Keynote

This keynote explores the ways in which traditional schooling neglects to empower students' cultural identities. Taliq reflects on his own background and experiences and how it shaped his ability to navigate both traditional and non-traditional learning environments. His story ignites a deeper conversation on equity in education and asks us to think about how students across the nation should learn today.

Global Warming : SAVING OUR PLANET

Global warming is an increase in surface temperature of the earth caused by human activities. The increase in temperature has resulted in an imbalance in the earth’s climate resulting in rising sea levels, glaciers melting and changing weather patterns that are affecting animal, plant and human life. Our presentation will acquaint you with global warming and its perils. In addition, you will be provided with material to educate and propagate information to your students and community. You will learn to demonstrate the effects of global warming thru simple experiments. We hope to see you all and help us in our campaign to raise awareness about global warming.

ALGEBRA!!!

Blueberry muffins taste good!

I just did that to get your attention. Ahem, to business now. Anyway, I'm here to humbly describe my Share Your Passion class to you all. First off, it's about ALGEBRA. Algebra algebra algebra. I could ramble on and on with more algebra's. However scary the topic of my class is, though, I can assure you it's very entertaining. It involves an execution scene, and, no, I did not just say that to get your attention. My awesome amazing phenomenal absolutely fabulous class (okay, that was not humble at all) includes a fully-detailed, step-by-step description of a mathematical dismemberment. No blood or gore is shed, probably to the disappointment of many kill-hungry people (no accusations intended). But the gist of it is that we'll be seeing how to use synthetic division (a MUCH BETTER modification of long division) to divide up an algebraic polynomial. Basically, the execution scene will involve a cleaver-brandishing divisor carefully chopping and dividing the dividend, which is an innocent polynomial named f(x). Does the peculiar dismemberment of a polynomial sound interesting? Well, just wait and see...things could get weirder! Long story short: please please please register for my class. It's going to be an unforgettable experience.

Diversity in the Classes

During our presentation, we will share our (student) perspective of diversity in classrooms. We will also explain how it affects students academically and socially. We believe that PBL helps groups of students use their knowledge and expertise about activities to shine in certain activities. We have a group project and activity idea to share to use in the classroom. For schools that do not regularly do PBL, we have a group project and activity idea in the classroom. We also have a game planned out that teaches students empathy towards others. This is to let them acknowledge that yes, we are all different, and we need to learn how to make sure every student could embrace their differences.

What’s in the mind of a modern day student?

Do you know what’s in the mind of a modern day student? Your answer may not be a positive yes. In fact, you might be thinking that you really don’t know. However, my lecture will give you a deeper and richer understanding of the student mind. My name is Mckayla Castigador and, I will be talking about the importance of mental health. Especially, taking care of a student’s mental health. My lesson will let you be able to empathize the pressures of being a student, the positives of being a student, things that students would change at their school, and how scary it can be at school. Within my lesson, I will teach you about the stigma of school. Also, how school may get worse as the kids grow older. But, I will provide a solution as well. School may be an amazing place for learning but, there are many pressures within a student’s day. Come hear and find out more about this very important topic.
