At Home Projects
Community Helper Project - May
As a part of our Community Helpers unit, students (with your help) will create a mini version of themselves dressed as the profession they would like to be when they grow up. Students have been given a template for creating their Community Helper. We recommend that these templates be traced or glued onto poster board so as to strengthen the base of your person.
On the back of the Community Helper, please help your child write about the following:
1. The name of your profession.
“When I grow up, I want to be a ______.”
2. The types of activities you would do if you had that job.
“When I am a ___________, I will ___________________.”
3. Why you chose that profession.
“I want to be a _______________ because ____________.”
Make your Community Helper as creative as possible! You can use fabric or construction paper to create uniforms or clothing, yarn or pasta for hair, and maybe even ribbon for decoration. The purpose of this activity is to share some family time, talk about what your child wants to be when he/she grows up, and to get your creative juices flowing!
Completed projects are due on or before: THURSDAY, MAY 9, 2024.
Treasure Box Project - September
In order to help promote literacy early on, each student will be making and designing their very own special treasure box.
When the students complete a mini-book in class, they can take the book home and place it in their special homemade box. TheirTreasure Box is also the perfect place to keep the paper sight-word readers that are sent home each week. By making this Treasure Box, students will be able to more easily find and read the books and keep them as treasures!!
Here's what you do . . .
Help your child find an adult-sized shoebox or similarly sized box with a lid.
Have your child choose items to decorate the box like wrapping paper (but make sure the box can still be opened!), stickers, foam pieces, any small trinkets, pasta noodles, buttons, anything that will stay attached to the box with glue, etc.
PLEASE DO NOT USE GLITTER OR REAL FOOD ITEMS ON YOUR PROJECT! THANKS!!
Your box may have a theme or it may simply represent items your child enjoys.
Please make sure your child’s name is on their project.
Bring the completed box to share with the class on or before:
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2023.
Have fun! 😀

100th Day of School Project - February
Tuesday, February 6th is our 100th day of school. We celebrate this special day as part of our math program. We would like each child to make a collection of 100 small items. These items can be the same-all stickers, all buttons, all paperclips, etc.! PLEASE DO NOT USE FOOD ITEMS AS IT ATTRACTS UNWANTED “VISITORS”. These items should be glued or taped to poster board. Mounting the items in groups or rows of ten would be helpful for counting purposes, but is not mandatory. The children should be as creative as possible. They may choose to make a picture or do groups. You can find many project ideas by doing an online search under “100th Day of School Projects”. Once their project is complete, please have your child practice presenting their project to a small audience at home in preparation for presenting in front of the class. The following is a sample “script” –
“This is my 100th Day of School Project. First, I ____________. Next, I ________. Then, I _________. Finally, I ___________. My ______helped me. My favorite part was __________.”
This project is due on or before: TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 2024. Your child may bring in their project as soon as it is finished and ready to share with the class. Please remember to have your child put their name on their project. Have Fun!
Thank you,
The Matsumoto Kindergarten Team

Straws
Bottle caps
Plastic lids
Empty water bottles
Empty egg cartons
Trash – snack wrappers, chip bags, take-out food containers, etc.

Use your imagination & creativity to come up with other interesting “found objects” to use
Be sure that any food containers are thoroughly cleaned out before using them for this project.
