Dear Gold Country Jazz Festival Participants and Attendees,
Thank you for joining us this weekend for the 8th Annual Gold Country Jazz Festival. The vision of this festival has always been to provide an educational environment in which developing jazz ensembles can come to perform and receive high quality, educational feedback. We are pleased to see so many middle school ensembles participating and are pleased to welcome ensembles from all over Northern California.
A challenge I encounter regularly with students and adults alike is a reluctance to begin or continue participation in music for fear of not being good enough. Even the most skilled musicians seem to encounter this self-doubt, as our competitive and business-driven world casts a shadow on what could, and should, be a lifelong pleasure.
I thoroughly believe that everyone has the capacity to participate in music-making, and I hope the events at this festival inspire you to keep making music for the rest of your life, or, if you’ve never had the opportunity, to get involved now and see what joys await you!
We are fortunate at Ponderosa to be in a community that supports music, and fortunate to be able to offer an event in which music is celebrated in a non-competitive manner. As a college professor of mine once said, “If kids are making music, everyone wins.”
Thank you for joining us in our celebration of this uniquely American art form. May music fill your lives!
Sincerely,
Kevin Bowlson
Ponderosa High School Director of Bands
Dear Gold Country Jazz Festival Participants,
On behalf of the El Dorado Union High School District, we are excited to welcome you to the 7th Annual Gold Country Jazz Festival hosted by Ponderosa High School and the Ponderosa Band Boosters. We are grateful for this opportunity to come together as a community to celebrate and enjoy live music together.
Today will be filled with wonderful music, engaging educational experiences, and community enjoyment. Student musicians and their directors dedicate countless hours to practicing and refining their art, and the performances you will see today demonstrate their level of commitment and talent.
The El Dorado Union High School District has award winning band and music programs and each year they participate in festivals, parades and community activities where they often win awards for their excellence.
The District has a long history of commitment to the arts. Today's performing groups come from throughout El Dorado County, as well as Granite Bay, Sacramento, West Sacramento, Orangevale, Carmichael, Rescue, Cameron Park, Roseville, and Rocklin. All are here to celebrate both musical excellence and the dedication of teachers, parents, and the community to keeping musical creativity alive in our schools, which has been shown to contribute significantly to a student's intellectual and personal growth.
Please enjoy this musical celebration and thank you for joining us!
Sincerely,
Ron Carruth
