What We're Learning This Term
English
Writing: Students will be focussing on descriptive writing and Procedural writing. Students will look at the structure and language features procedure texts. They will further refine their skills when writing descriptive snapshots, expanding their vocabulary and setting the scene for the reader. Students will also practise their touch typing through 'Typing Club' to improve their efficiency when working on their devices.
Reading: Through reading daily, students will continue to develop their reading fluency and word recognition. Students will also strengthen and extend their comprehension skills focussing on summarising, monitoring, predicting, questioning, visualising, and making connections. They will begin a Novel Study via Google Classrooms.
Spelling: Students will continue with the Spelling Mastery program. At the end of each week, they will participate in a spelling test.
Maths
In Maths, students will be focussing on area and perimeter, time, location and transformation, and chance and probability, investigating the 'real life' applications of this learning through problem solving and mathematical investigations.
Science & STEM
We will continue our unit 'Material World' investigating materials and their properties and finish the year exploring how natural processes and human activity shape the landscapes around us. Students will further apply their learning further in regular STEM design challenges.
History
Students will study the nature of 'First Contact' between the First Nation peoples and the Europeans, and the effects of these interactions, including issues regarding land ownership.
