Elissa Down is an Australian filmmaker who made her feature-film debut with the critically acclaimed 2008 drama The Black Balloon, which earned international attention and established her reputation for sensitive storytelling. Before directing her first feature film, she built a strong portfolio of award-winning short films in Western Australia.
Her subsequent career includes directing Netflix films like The Honor List and Feel the Beat, as well as episodes of the popular Australian TV series Offspring. Elissa Down also works as a writer, producer, and acting coach, running her own production company, while continuing to adapt literary works into films.

About the film
The Black Balloon is a 2008 Australian drama directed by Elissa Down, starring Rhys Wakefield and newcomer Erik Thomson as brothers navigating life with autism. The film follows Thomas as he struggles to fit in socially while caring for his younger autistic brother Charlie, whose behavior often embarrasses him in front of peers and a new crush.
