7th - First day of Term Four!
Dear CNPS families,
Happy end of Term 3 to all who celebrate! I know a bunch of very relieved staff who are keen for some rest and recharge time over the next couple of weeks. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the excellent learning programs this term – listening to students read, helping on excursions or with the Food Garden, offering to help for the upcoming Fete, and coming along to our Working Bees. We appreciate you all! Thanks to the staff for all their work on extra events, including learning Expos, movie excursions, Athletics, a performing arts showcase…. As well as all of the impressive “core business” that occurs on a daily and weekly basis.
Speaking of Working Bees…
We had a committed turnout for our session last Sunday; a big thank you as always to Pete and Nicole for coordinating the tasks, and to Nicole for bringing the delicious home-cooked snacks for morning tea! Thank you also to Stephanie, Leighton and family, Tess and Justin, Blair and family, Bree Carr, Geoff, Kat, Tom and Jack, Lori and Pete, David E, Andrew, Thomas and Zoe, Damian B, Jodi and Dax. The fence on the oval was repaired and we also have 4 lovely new trees. We plan to hold another Working Bee on the last Sunday of the holidays for a pre-fete spruce up.
Cupcake Fundraiser
Also last Sunday… these 3 legends ran a stall to raise money for our school – almost $800! Thank you to Andrew, Tim and Adelaide for running the stall at the Fashion Parade. Thank you also to the parents who donated cakes, and to those who purchased the leftover cakes on Monday afternoon!
Farewell Matilda
Sadly, we say goodbye to Matilda from 1/2W, as she and her family move back to Melbourne over the holiday break. We wish Laura, Eric, Matilda and Jet all the best for their next chapter. We will miss you!
Garden Beds around the school – Parent help
Some time ago, we sent out a school map on the WhatsApp groups, designating certain garden beds to each cohort of students/parents, and asked if any parents would be keen to help maintain the beds with some watering in the warmer months and some weeding or pruning as required. If you can help, please see me, and I can show you the nearest tap/hose or answer any questions you may have. We have some new plants that will need a little bit of TLC until they are established.
I hope our students have an enjoyable holiday break and we look forward to a fantastic Term 4!

BOOK CLUB
All book club orders have been distributed to students.
Thank you
Angela.
Big thanks to all the families who baked for the cupcake stall to help raise funds for our fantastic school - it was a hit, and by some miracle the very last child in the queue on Monday got the very last cupcake. 🧁

We need some more helpers at the fete! It's a great way to meet/catch up with other parents and get involved in the day. You can sign up for a shift (or two) at https://volunteersignup.org/DXRKK
We especially need people to help on Friday 18 September (with a couple of utes) to collect marquees, and do some site prep, as well as Saturday morning and afternoon to help with set up and packdown. Thanks so much to everyone who has already signed up!
Donations update
The donations have been coming in in great numbers, so again thank you. The holidays is a great time to do a clear out, and we particularly need more of the following items:
· MYO terrarium supplies - this includes jars (lids not needed) and any nice rocks and little figures or gems etc,
· Bric-a-brac - crockery, vases, tea pots, homewares, cookware, etc. (Just no electricals please)
· Lucky number jars! Fill a jar with some treasures, treats, crafty supplies, get creative!
· Homemade jams, preserved goods, pickles etc.
Plus books, chocolate bars, cans of drink, and dress ups... You can drop them off in the first week of Term 4, or email cnpsfete@gmail.com if you want to drop off over the holidays.
Do you know of anyone who would be interested in becoming a crossing supervisor at some of our local school crossings?
The position requires a sensible and pragmatic approach to safety in relation to traffic, the use of Stop signs, and most importantly, the safe passage of children across some of our busy roads! It is a great opportunity to become a part of the local community as well as helping to keep our children safe.
Renumeration is based on an hourly rate, with an additional allowance for travel to and from which ever school crossing you are supervising. Training, equipment and uniform are provided.
The hours are approximately 40 minutes to an hour in the morning (depending on which school crossing you have been allocated) and roughly the same hours for the afternoon shift. Start times are from 8.10am to approximately 9.00am and the afternoon shift is 3.00pm to approximately 4.00pm.
If you, or someone you know, might be interested, please email:
j.sheldon@mountalexander.vic.gov.au and I can answer any questions and explain the role in greater detail.
Hello from the Prep Rooms,
It’s hard to believe that we have come to the end of another term!
To wrap up our Big Question ‘How and why do we celebrate?’, we ended the term with a class party. The students took the planning lead by writing their own invitations and brainstorming ideas for the event. Everyone had a fantastic time playing party games, enjoying some snacks, and watching ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory– a perfect way to celebrate after reading it together as our class novel.
In Literacy, we focused on learning the new sound ‘ng’ and practised reading and writing words using this code. In Maths, we continued to work on telling time, both o’clock and half past times on analogue and digital clocks. As part of our Respectful Relationships lessons, we discussed the important people we can turn to for help, both at home and at school, and wrote about those people. We also supported the Indigenous Literacy Foundation through our Busking for Change event on Wednesday afternoon. It was great to enjoy performances from the CNPS choir and Grade 5/6 students on ukuleles and participating in a song with the whole school. Yesterday, we took part in the P-2 athletics day, having a fantastic time participating in all the events. A big thank you to Carly for organising this wonderful event.
Today we sent home students’ Learning Journals. Over the holidays, please enjoy looking through the different work samples together and celebrating the learning that has taken place. Please return this early next term and we will continue adding work for Term Four.
We hope you all have an enjoyable break over the holidays and look forward to seeing students refreshed and ready to go for Term 4!
Nicole and Lauren.
A busy last week of term with house athletics, a movie and a wonderful busking for change. Didn’t you love the catchy Shordi Krik, the students did such a beautiful job and the choir was fabulous. In the classroom we haven’t slowed down either , learning about patterns in maths and book reports in literacy. We have been learning about the ‘ow’ code in spelling and fair games in our Respectful relationship lessons. During our inquiry lessons we have been visiting Thailand and thinking about Songkran; building temples and water balloon games.
We would also like to say a warm goodbye to Maltilda and her family in 1/2W who is leaving us for adventures in Melbourne. Matilda you will be missed , but please come back to visit us whenever you wish.
Happy holidays and a restful two weeks to all,
Wendy, Sally, Sarah and Bec
Term 3 has come and gone in a flash! It has been thrilling to see the development and growth of the skills of the grade 3 and 4 students.
We’ve concluded our term by wrapping up our science knowledge unit exploring how the earth moves. Some grades have created models of the sun and earth, used PowerPoints to share information, drawn pictures and even played with a Lego model (thanks Ash).
Here are some pictures:
In mathematics this week we have continued to explore angles and learnt to use the protractor. We finished by creating a bus stop full of robots and identified all the different angles we had created.
Here are some pictures:
On Thursday we went to the Theatre Royal to watch the movie Runt. We highly recommend it!

TOY DONATIONS NEEDED FOR THE SCHOOL FETE!
Mr. Scott and 3/4PS are excited to be putting together show bags for the upcoming school fete. Each bag will include a bottle of water, chips, a selection of lollies, and we’d love to add a small toy to make them even more special.
This is a great opportunity to declutter your home and pass on any gently used or unwanted toys to bring joy to others. We are happy to accept all types of toy types.
If you have any toys to donate, we’d greatly appreciate your contributions! Donations can be dropped off either at the office or in Mr. Scott’s classroom during the first week back after the holidays.
Thank you for your support!
Thank you all for a wonderful Term 3! The expo that we held on Friday morning was evidence of an important semester of learning. From the conflicts that arose during European settlement in Australia to the Stolen Generations, Forgotten Australians, Eddie Mabo’s historic victory and to ongoing change in the future. We looked at women’s suffrage, immigration, refugees, and Australia being a multicultural society and that being reason to celebrate.
We finished the term with a bang; a class party with games, music and a treasure hunt.
Thanks to everyone for all your work, supporting your kids in their quest to be amazing!
Division Athletics
Congratulations to the students who competed in the Goldfields Division Track and Field this week. Students have been working on their events during lunchtime and this was reflected in their great results. We have 20 students who have qualified for Loddon Mallee Region to be held in Bendigo on Monday 14th October. We rely on parents to transport their children to this event.
House Athletics Grade P-2
Students looked fantastic in their house team colours and had a great time participating in their modified athletics events this week. They completed activities with exceptional attitudes, displaying care and encouragement for their peers and demonstrating pride in their efforts and achievements. Thank you to the Grade 5/6 student leaders who worked with student groups or events and modelled terrific organisation and communication skills.
Blue Evans House earned the most points for the day! (And no thunderstorm for those who remember the 2023 event!)

PE Dance
The Grade 3-6 students have been letting loose on the dance floor in PE for the past week or two and relating this to our health and well-being.
