Dear CNPS families,
I hope everyone had a fantastic extra long weekend! The teachers worked diligently on Semester Two reports on Monday and we had a range of professional learning sessions on Wednesday. A lot of this work focussed on our Resilience, Rights, and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) program. Alana from the Department of Education worked with teachers on some of the evidence that informs the program as well as delving deeper into some of the topics in the program. The RRRR program helps students build social and emotional skills and develop respectful relationships. This video was shared earlier in the year but staff viewed it again during Alana's session. It highlights the hidden forms of disrespect that young people can encounter when using technology.
Staff also spent time exploring the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) Guide to evaluating and selecting education resources. The Guide supports educators to make conscious and critical decisions when selecting curriculum resources, to ensure they reflect all children, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, and cause no harm.
The Guide also assists teachers to select appropriate resources for teaching Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and languages respectfully and effectively. This work is ongoing and teachers posed many thoughtful and relevant questions about how we can better incorporate First Nations perspectives into the curriculum. Our day aligned with a significant announcement about the negotiation of Australia's first Treaty by the First Peoples in Victoria and the Victorian Government. I encourage you to head to https://firstpeoplesvic.org/treaty/ to find out more about this significant moment.
Remembrance Day
Tuesday, 11 November 2025 is Remembrance Day – a day for us to remember those who have served, suffered or died in all wars and peacekeeping operations. The annual observance also acknowledges the service of Australian Defence Force members on active deployment.
Remembrance Day marks the date in 1918 when World War I came to an end. It is officially observed at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
To mark Remembrance Day, we will pause at 11 am on Tuesday, 11 November 2025 for a minute’s silence, to remember people's service and sacrifice.
Suitcase Rummage
We are excited to be hosting our Suitcase Rummage fundraiser this Sunday 10am-1pm! This is a last minute call out for items for our CNPS stall - please leave these in the hallway near Sam's office tomorrow (or even bring on the day). Up to 10 items of quality per donation - they can be anything: clothes, bric a brac, toys, household appliances... All the proceeds from the sale of these items will go to the school, and we have three people lined up to run that stall.
It promises to be a fun event - please come along and also help us spread the word (flyer attached), and Facebook event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1467719067839524
And it's not too late to host your own stall if you've got lots of stuff to sell! Sign up before 3pm Saturday: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/castlemaine-suitcase-rummage-tickets-1704617991299?aff=oddtdtcreator
And thanks to all of those who have signed up to volunteer for BBQ, bake sale, face-painting, hosting and running stalls. We really appreciate it!
The Antiques Roadshow Experience is an opportunity to get that family heirloom valued! Dale Cox, a local antiques and collectibles expert, will be offering valuations of items for a gold coin donation. Just like Antiques Roadshow each valuation will be fun to listen in on, with all the historical storytelling and intrigue combined with suspense of the "big reveal" - the item's true value! Bring along something from home that you've always wondered about!
A huge thank you to Jodi, Lauren, Steph and Andrew who have done an incredible job of organising what is sure to be an fun day!
Parent Payment Policy
The School Council policy sub-committee recently met and endorsed our Parent Payment Policy for 2026. You may have seen in the news that there are changes for schools in regards to the provision of computers in schools coming in 2027. These changes will not impact CNPS as we do not ask families to provide devices for students. We will continue to itemise the voluntary curriculum contribution for Year 5/6 devices but no students will be excluded from access. You can view the policy on our website or by clicking here.
Thank you
This will be my last newsletter before I return to regional office for the remainder of the year. Ms Chapman will be back on board from Thursday next week. Ms Chapman has popped in a couple of times to visit and has shared many stories about her travels. As much as she enjoyed her time away, she is eager to get back to the place she loves and see so many familiar faces! We hope you are feeling refreshed Ms Chapman; we can't wait to have you back!
I would like to thank every member of our school community for welcoming me back and demonstrating so many of the values we try to instill in our students. Thank you for your patience and understanding and I hope the remainder of the year is an exciting time, full of great memories. It has been an absolute privilige to be the principal of such an amazing school.
Due to the short week, there are no class reports this week.
Have a fantastic weekend. See you at the Suitcase Rummage!

State Athletics
Congratulations to Chet C, Eli H, Elijah A and George C on their valiant performance at the State Track and Field Championship in the 4 x 100m relay at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park on Thursday 6th November. Thank you to the families for supporting and transporting these students and to Darcy B as our emergency runner – supporting the team every step of the way. CNPS are proud of your efforts and achievements.
Region Cricket
Our cricket team are headed to Swan Hill on Friday 14th November for the Region Cricket Final. They’ve continued training together during lunchtimes. We require parents/carers to transport and supervise their child at this event. Car pooling is possible. Please return permission notes by next Tuesday 10/11.
Bike Education Grade 3-6
Grade 3/4HC began their Bike Education program during their PE lesson today. Thank you to Dax and Huw for supporting this class with their bike and helmet safety checks and helping with adjustments. Our remaining 3/4 and 5/6 classes begin next week. Please refer to the information and permission note for your class dates and times. At CNPS we value active travel to school due to the environmental, health and social benefits.
Students will need to bring a roadworthy bike and a helmet to school on their scheduled PE day. We require the assistance or parent/carers to assist with minor tune ups during our first session and safety checkpoint marshalls on our last week when we venture outside the school on to the footpath or road.
District Kickball Grade P-2
Our students in Grades Prep, One and Two participated in District Kickball today against student teams from other schools. The emphasis is on participation, fun, personal growth and development. Thank you to our helpers: Charmaine, Meg, Gabe and Nick for supervising a team.
CNPS Titans Soccer Top Missing!
We’ve discovered we’re missing one of our white team soccer jerseys, No. 6. I suspect it was already missing before this year, but if anyone comes across it (ex students?), we’d love to have it back. Thanks!
Grade 3-6 PE Golf
In PE this term, the Grade 3/4 and 5/6 classes have experienced golf as focus for a target sport. We discovered different clubs have different purposes and we practised our putting accuracy and our 7-iron chipping. We also learnt about teeing off, the par for a hole and counting our shots. Enjoy these photos of our golfing activities.
