Dear CNPS Parents,
Welcome back to my favourite term for kicking learning and developmental goals - the Premiership Term. I hope the students are feeling refreshed and ready for another exciting term of learning and enjoying time with their friends and teachers. We have many events lined up for this term - please check your emails, and the newsletters, for reminders about upcoming excursions for Performing Arts, Visual Arts, and some in-school (SRC and sporting) events. One of the highlights this term, is the Annual Book Week parade - time to start planning costumes! Book Week is in Week 6 of this term.
PARENTS BIG NIGHT OUT
Our FunRaisers Committee have been working hard to plan a fun night out for parents and their friends/family... a Winter Luau, to make us feel warmer! There will be live music, some trivia and games, prizes and raffles... It is only 2 weeks away! Please book your individual ticket or book a table. It will be a great night - hope to see you there!
SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS
In circumstances beyond our control, we are still unable to provide images from our school photo day earlier this year. It is extremely frustrating, and I am sorry to families that have paid for student and family photos. See below message from Ms Cox, explaining our next steps. Again, I am sorry for this disappointing news.
Have a great weekend,
Sam C
School Photos Update ……
We have been informed that Academy School Photography has gone into liquidation and we are awaiting the outcome of parents/carers (ie. creditors) receiving school photographs ordered and paid for in Term 1.
We have been notified by the legal team of Heard Phillips Lieberenz (Liquidators) that there is virtually no chance of parents/carers (ie. creditors) receiving anything in return for payments.
(Ultimately, no one will receive school photos of any description).
The school has been approached by the company MSP Photography (Gary Baxter), who are offering to step in and to rectify this situation to a certain extent (at NO cost to parents/carers).
They are offering to retake school photos on Wednesday, 11th September. They are able to offer to all families:
1 – 5 x 7 cm Individual Photo
1 – A4 Size Composite Grade photo (faces only)
They have also kindly offered a Grade 6 Graduation group photo (A4).
Unfortunately, they are not able to include in this complimentary offer a Family photo.
Parents/Carers wanting a Family photo will need to make their own private arrangements.
If there are questions regarding any matters in relation to Academy Photography, please contact Samantha Krznaric (Senior Accountant – Heard Phillips Lieberenz) OR Anthony Phillips Liquidator – Heard Phillips Lieberenz) (08) 7089 0011.
Hello from the Preps and welcome back to Term 3! The students have had a fantastic start to the term and were excited to share their holiday adventures with their friends and get back into the routine of school.
This week in Literacy we have been investigating when to add ‘s’ and ‘es’ to the end of words to make them plural such as fox + es = foxes and hop + s = hops. Our focus in reading is reading fluently- reading so that we are reading with expression and at a good pace, instead of decoding each word. In Maths, we have been learning subtraction. A highlight was creating our own subtraction story and drawing a picture to match. These are displayed in the classroom, so come in and have a look! As an introduction to our new Big Question ‘How and Why do we celebrate?’ we made a class list of different celebrations we celebrate each year. For our STEAM Friday Challenge, we used the ‘Makedo’ to create an animal. These are special tools that we use to cut and add cardboard together including plastic screws and screwdriver.
Next week we will explore reading and writing four letter words and continue to develop our writing to ensure we are using full stops, capital letters and spaces correctly. In Maths, students will continue to investigate effective subtraction strategies. As the Olympics start late next week, we will be learning about the Olympics!
This week your child/dren came home with a note regarding 100 Days at School and their special ‘100’ challenge. We will be celebrating this at school on the 29th July and look forward to seeing what the students create to bring and share.
Have a great weekend,
Lauren and Nicole
It has been lovely to hear about all your exciting adventures from the holidays and to welcome back the students. This week we have jumped straight in with place value in our maths work. We have managed to count all the way to 2000 and back in one minute sixteen – give it a go, can you beat us?
In Literacy we have been looking at pronouns as well as enjoying some beautiful books by Aboriginal authors in our celebration of NAIDOC week. We have made some T-shirts in the style of this year’s poster with a theme of fire. This has led neatly into our new Big Question; How and why people celebrate. In our wellness lessons we are looking at pursuing our personal best and what that looks like. This is perfect for our Olympic games study over the next few weeks -stay tuned for more news regarding an Olympic expo in week 4!
Best wishes from all of the 1 / 2 Team
Wendy, Sally, Bec and Sarah
Welcome back! Can you believe we’re already through the first week of Term 3?
We have begun our knowledge unit exploring Australian history, beginning over 40,000 years ago looking at mega fauna, the ice age, Lake Mungo and then moving to first impact. Our writing focus has been creating senses using subordinating conjunctions depicting time, such as while, until and when.
It was lovely to see students completing their talk homework in preparation for our first big write of the term. There are many exciting stories, and we will celebrate the language features students have including in their writing. This piece will also be used as a catalyst to create learning goals.
Here are a few examples of celebrated sentences:
The Indigenous Australians lived harmoniously until the Europeans arrived and thought, “well no one lives here” so they started to cut down the trees and made lots of farming land, while the aboriginals suffered.
Mathilde
The Indigenous Australians lived in harmony with the land until the Europeans came and said this is our land.
Henry
Large numbers of Indigenous people died from starvation while the Europeans were making farms.
Lola
During mathematics this week we have been working on place value with decimal numbers. We’ve also enjoyed some great games using our addition and multiplication facts. Our favourite game this week has been from Charlie Chapman called ‘Find the Product’ using a grid of numbers and a deck of cards. The aim of the game is to get 4 numbers in a row by using the cards in your hand, multiplying to find the product.
Here are some pictures:
We recognised and celebrated NAIDOC week this week by looking at the artwork ‘Urapun Muy’ by the artist Deb Belyea, SAMUAWGADHALGAL, TORRES STRAIT. This wonderful piece uses the fire to symbolize the enduring strength, unity, and cultural heritage of Indigenous peoples, inspiring us to honor, preserve, and share these rich traditions. Welcome backt to Term Three! As Ms Chapman likes to call it, Term Three is the premiership quarter! The 5/6s have hit the ground running (pardon the pun) and launched into learning about the history of the Olympic Games. Did you know the first Australian Olympian participated in two sports (athletics and tennis) whilst also managing a career as an accountant? We've been learning about different sports and practising our note taking in preperation for our Big Write next week. We've also been exploring the bound morpheme 'tect' which means to cover. During Maths, we've been the exploring the Cartesian Plane and using coordinates to create drawings.
Next week, we'll be learning about the morphemes cide/cise, learning more about the Olympic Games, writing an information report and delving into the world of chance and probability.
What muddy fun our cross country runners had at the State Cross Country this week! Back view photos were the order of the day! Congratulations on your achievements to progress all the way to the State Championships.
