Dear CNPS families,
Book Week Parade
On Monday, our students celebrated Book Week with a colourful parade. It was fantastic to see so many creative costumes inspired by students' favourite characters. Thank you to families for the effort that went into preparing outfits and supporting a love of reading at home. We are organising the purchase of a new speaker to support our resident 'sound tech', Jay. Thank you to the SRC, Bec, Hannah, and Jay for coordinating the event.
CNPS TITANS
On Tuesday, our CNPS TITANS soccer girls team represented the school with pride in Swan Hill. The students have shown great teamwork and persistence during training sessions and this came to the fore in the regional finals. The Titans made it all the way to the final, going down by one goal in extra time! We congratulate all players who, even in the face of disappointment, demonstrated incredible integrity, respecting the rules and your opponents. Thank you to Carly for her organisation, Jay for travelling with the team, Josie (a former student!) for the wonderful coaching, and all the parent helpers who drove up and back! Thank you for making events like this possible.
Winter Warm Up
Our Winter Warm Up day was a success, with students enjoying an array of delicious soups and enjoying a movie in their classroom! Special thanks to Andrew Stephens for coordinating this event with parents!
Parent Opinion Survey
The annual Parent Opinion Survey is now open. Families are encouraged to complete the survey, as the feedback helps us to continue improving our programs and learning environment. The survey link was emailed out to the primary contact for each family.
Student Led Learning Expo
An email and Sentral notification was sent earlier in the week about the Student Led Learning Expo. The Expo will be held on Wednesday the 3rd of September.
There are 3 timeslots for the visits:
* 3.30pm-4.15pm
* 4.15pm-5.00pm
* 5.00pm-5.45pm
We are capping each session at 10 families, so the classrooms are not too crowded, so it will be a first in system for booking. Each family only needs to book 1 ticket.
Families can visit any time within their 45-minute booking, which also allows more flexibility than a 15-minute appointment. The class teachers will be in the room throughout this time and will be available for an informal chat (not for individual progress reporting) or to assist any students with their sharing if required.
Please check Sentral/your emails for the booking link, or contact your child/s classroom teacher to make a time.
New Tables
This term we have purchased four new outdoor tables for our school grounds. Ash, who can do anything and everything around the school grounds, has put these tables together for our community to enjoy! Thank you to Julian, one of our amazing school councillors, for organising the purchase of these tables!
Wear It Purple Day
Next Friday, our school will recognise Wear It Purple Day, a day about showing respect and kindness to everyone. Classes will talk about how families can look different—some have a mum and a dad, some have two mums or two dads, some have one parent, and some live with grandparents, carers, or other family members. What matters most is that every family cares for and supports their children. This is a significant day that also shows support for LGBTQIA+ young people in our community. We will also be holding a lunch time dance party that all students can attend.
Wear It Purple Day reminds us that our school is a safe and welcoming place for all students and families and that everyone belongs at CNPS.
Have a great weekend!

Hello from the Preps!
What a fabulous way to begin our week with the much-anticipated Book Week Parade! It was wonderful to see the creativity, effort, and imagination that went into each costume and to share in the excitement this event brings. The parade is always a highlight of our school year. Following the parade, students took part in a whole-school, multi-age activity where they explored a variety of the shortlisted books, celebrating the joy of reading together.
We wrapped up the week with a more relaxed celebration, the Winter Warm Up. Students loved coming to school in their cosy pyjamas and enjoying a delicious soup lunch, kindly provided by our generous parent group.
This week in Literacy, the Prep students continued working on the ‘ck’ sound, practising reading and writing words and sentences with this code. They were especially excited to create their own black duck character. For our Big Write, the topic was “My best birthday…” and the students really enjoyed having a go at writing two or more sentences to share their special ideas.
In Maths, we explored the concept of mass, using both hefting and pan scales to compare the weights of different objects. The students loved working together to order bags of objects from lightest to heaviest and were very proud of their discoveries.
In R.R.R.R., we ended our topic on stress management. Using the book The Huge Bag of Worries, we discussed calming strategies and how sharing our worries with others can help us feel better.
Next week in Literacy, students will be learning about words with the sh sound and practising using the joining word ‘but’ in their writing. In Maths, we’ll be exploring the idea of division, by sharing objects evenly between groups.
Miss Else and Nicole
Hello from the Golden Wattle building!
On Monday, we were blown away by the creativity and imagination that was involved in creating all the amazing Book Week costumes! We enjoyed showing these off at our whole school parade and afterwards, broke into multi-age groups to read a shortlisted Children’s Book Award story and a connected craft activity.
This week, we also learned about endangered species, in particular the Corroboree Frog. We discovered there are many threats to the Corroboree Frog and that in 2010 there were less than 20 in the wild! Since then, zoos in Australia have been working on a recovery program and have been releasing thousands of frogs and eggs into the wild.
In Literacy, we read The Little Corroboree Frog and Uno’s Garden and visualised the habitats that were described. We wrote descriptions of the different landscapes with a focus on including adjectives to describe nouns. We also used adjectives during our Big Write this week, where we imagined a secret land that we enter through a magic door!
As we finished up our Big Question, "How are we connected to other living things?", we thought about the actions we can take to help our local animals. We decided we wanted to clean up Barkers Creek to protect the habitat of the animals that live there. Thank you to our amazing parent helpers that joined us on Thursday.
In Maths this week, we have continued exploring multiplication, this week with a focus on repeated addition and equivalent equations. For example, we realised that 3 rows of 2 counters could be represented as 2 + 2 + 2 or 3 + 3. We made arrays using rows of 2, 5 and 10 counters, and used skip counting to find the totals.
And of course, to finish off the week, we donned our favourite pajamas, enjoyed some yummy soup and watched a movie together to celebrate our Winter Warm-Up day! What a fabulous and fun week we’ve had!
Next week, we will start to look at a new Big Question, "What do we know about those who have come before us?", which will involve an excursion to the Boorp Boorp Boondyil exhibition at the Market building. We will continue to explore adjectives in Literacy and multiplication and division in Maths. And don’t forget that we will be wearing purple on Friday to celebrate and support our LGBTQ+ community.
Have a great weekend,
Wendy, Laura, Claire, Sarah and Andrew
What a busy and exciting week the Grade 3/4s have had!
We began the week with the highly anticipated, famous CNPS Book Parade! Thank you for all the effort families put into preparing for this day and helping us celebrate the joy of reading (and dressing up) with your children. The costumes and creativity seem to be getting better each year! Following our parade, we responded to one of the CBCA shortlisted picture books in multiage groups and proudly shared our work at our sharing assembly.
On Tuesday, we were fortunate to participate in a Grow Your Mind incursion which perfectly complimented the wellbeing programs that we have in place at our school. Alice (and her lovely sidekick Erryn) reminded us of the importance of being good enough (embracing who you are and letting go of perfection and comparison to others), using our strengths for good to make a positive impact, developing a growth mindset as practice means progress and that everyone can be resilient. Through discussing funny scenarios, (including how to get out of a poop storm!) students focused on the following steps that everyone can relate to:
Practise Gratitude – look for the good and be a glimmer seeker
Sadness is a part of life – everybody faces sadness, setbacks and stuff ups
Do the things you love – bring on the positive emotions!
Challenge unhelpful thoughts – ask yourself, is this helpful or harming?
On Tuesday afternoons, 3/4S have enjoyed spending time in the garden with Nico, Mikaela and Rick. Students helped clean out the chicken coop, organise the compost, prepare some seedlings, make some gorgeous wreaths, prune the fruit trees, make origami seed packets and seed bombs and of course there was plenty of weeding too! A big thank you to our parents Erryn, David and Michael for their help.
In Maths, we’ve begun exploring angles! Using a right angle as our starting point, we've been investigating obtuse and acute angles, and even practicing how to estimate them. This week in Literacy, we have been using adjectives to expand our sentences as we launched our new Big Question "What is it made of and why?".
On Thursday, we had the opportunity to showcase our performing skills when Bec from Drama Victoria visited us during our Performance Arts sessions with Nicci. Through some engaging and interactive tasks students developed their creative thinking skills, ability to work within a team as well as building their confidence.
It was a relaxing end to our week with our Winter Warm Up Day; wearing our comfy PJ’s, enjoying the yummy soup that our parents and carers kindly provided and ending with a movie. It certainly made it a fun Friday! Thank you to all the volunteers who made this possible for us.
Next week we will delve further into our Big Question, "What is it made of and why?", continue to explore angles in Maths, complete a Cold Write and students may wear purple to celebrate diversity and young people from the LGBTQ+ community next Friday.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Mr Scott, Hannah, Carly, Louise and Sally
Dear 5/6 Families,
It has been another fun-filled and busy week in 5/6, with special events and lots of learning to celebrate!
What a fantastic Book Week parade we had! Thank you to our families for helping students prepare their amazing costumes—it was wonderful to see so much creativity on show. A special shout-out goes to the students who don’t always feel comfortable dressing up but still joined in with their class during the parade. Well done to everyone!
Grow Your Mind Incursion – “Be the Boss of Your Own Device”
This week, we took part in an engaging incursion about managing technology and looking after our wellbeing. Students explored the amazing things devices can bring—video games, connections, and access to information—as well as potential downsides, like missing out on time outdoors, exercise, and face-to-face moments with others.
We learned the difference between:
Phasic dopamine – the quick “easy” brain reward that doesn’t take much effort, and
Tonic dopamine – the deeper “YAY” feeling we get when we challenge ourselves and use our brains fully.
Students were encouraged to aim for more “green time than screen time”—to head outside, move, connect, and notice the main moment.
A big thank-you to our student volunteers who helped in the workshop:
Trees: Frederick & Alba
Birds: Luca (falcon), Otto (pigeon), Elke (eagle) & Kier (albatross)
Ask your child if they can remember what these birds and trees represented! We also explored some strategies for climbing out of a “shame hole” and building resilience.
Thank you to our parents for providing delicious soup for the annual Winter Warm Up! There’s nothing better than coming to school in pyjamas, enjoying comfort food, and watching a film together. This event was a lovely way to relax and connect as a community.
In the classroom, students have been putting the finishing touches on our data unit in mathematics, where they’ve built skills in collecting, representing, and interpreting information, and will now move on to exploring percentages. In BQT we will beginning our new unit on chemical sciences, where students will experiment with mixtures, reactions, and changes. We are excited to welcome families to our Student-Led Expo in Week 7, where students will proudly showcase their work and learning.
Looking Ahead – Week 6
Final P4P session – Wednesday
Wear It Purple Day – Friday (celebrating inclusivity and respect)
Melbourne Renegades Cricket Visit – Friday
Wishing everyone a sunny weekend.
Warm regards,
Hannah, Jay, Bec, Ben, Nicci & Mr Higgins
HARI KEMERDEKAAN – Independence day
Last Sunday marked the 80th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence Day. As part of this occasion our friends from ‘Baguskan’, Nita & Aaron, who we have partnered with for our annual Indonesian day, performed with their gamelan & dance group at Federation Square in Melbourne. Sierra Egan from class 3/4S also joined them for this special occasion to participate in the ‘Ponogoro Reog’. It was wonderful to see her there representing our school and being part of this cultural submersion. A big congratulations to Sierra for her bravery to participate, especially with limited rehearsals and in front of such a big crowd! Also, a big thank you to Tess and Justin for supporting her to partake in this event. With Aaron & Nita’s recent success of receiving a grant to develop this unique cultural form we can look forward to seeing more dancing in our community and hopefully being part of future local performances too.
District Basketball, Cricket and Tennis – 5 September
During Grade 3-6 P.E. lessons this term, we have been practising cricket and tennis in preparation for the District event on Friday 5th September. Grade 5/6 students have selected their preferred sport to participate in match play against students from other schools. The Grade 3/4 classes will participate in skill rotations in both cricket and tennis (having already had their basketball experience in Term 1).
Please return your permission form before Monday 1st September. We will require the support from parents/carers to help supervise groups of students. Please indicate your availability on the form or to your class teacher.
Loddon Mallee Region Soccer
Our Girls’ Soccer Team attended the Loddon Mallee Region Soccer this week. We had a strong performance in our opening game, winning 7-0. We then had a narrow 1-0 win followed by a 0-0 draw in our final pool match. We succeeded in making the final against Spring Gully due to our goal difference across our pool matches. The final was a tight, hard-fought match that went to golden goal in extra time to decide the winner. This event was a great experience for our team, who just narrowly missed out on making it through to the state final. Our players can feel so proud of their efforts in training to prepare for the event and their terrific performances on the day. CNPS hope you continue your soccer journey into the future!
Thank you to Jay for supervising the team in training and accompanying them to the event. Thank you to big sister, Josie T for coaching on the day and to parents, Andy T, Daniel R, Laura N and Tom N for driving and all parents who attended for supporting the team in Swan Hill.
