Homework is due every Monday.
Diaries
Diaries are due every Friday. Students must read at least 4 times a week for 30 minutes each time. Book titles and pages/times are to be written down in diaries and signed by parents each day. Activities on the left hand side of the diary also need to be completed each week.
Expectations
It is expected that every student completes these weekly tasks. Failure to do so or to an adequate standard will result in students making up time at recess or lunch to complete these tasks. Repeat offenders will receive a strike.
Week 9 (Due 9th December)
Bring an envelope to school which needs to have:
Your name and address (somewhere you will be this time next year)
Stamp stuck in the corner - needs to be $1.50
This is because in class this week you are writing a letter to your future self. It will be sent to the address on the envelope this time next year.

This week you will be researching a natural disaster that has happened in the country you did your project on.
Examples may include earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunami's, famine, floods, droughts etc. You will then need to write ½ to ¾ of a page explaining what happened and the impact it had on the people living there.

8. Venn Diagram – Using what you’ve learnt from task 7, complete a Venn diagram showing at least 3 differences and 3 similarities between life in your country and life in Australia. (e.g school is compulsory in both countries. Australians use cars and _______ use ______ )
9. Currency – What is the name of the currency used? How does it compare to the Australian dollar? (Exchange rate)
10. Major exports and imports – Make two lists!
11. Government – What style of government do they have and who is the current leader? How does this affect their everyday life?
12. Historical Facts – 1. Record at least 3 significant events and explain why they were
significant. (e.g. Was there mass devastation? Loss of life? Did the people learn
something?) 2. What are some of the problems facing the population today? (e.g. poverty,
unemployment, homelessness, war, drought, famine, poaching, riots)

You are to continue working on your Inquiry project.
By the end of this week you should have the following sections researched and be on the way to putting your assignment together.
The section about the people will take some time and require a fair amount of research.
4. Terrain and landforms - describe the terrain of your country, include significant natural landforms and geographical features (e.g. For Australia – Uluru, Great Barrier Reef and more!)
5. Climate – Describe the seasons and climatic zone of your country. Does your country have four seasons or only two? Is it in the Arctic, Temperate or Tropical zone? How does this affect their everyday life?
6. Annual Temperature and Rainfall - You have two choices here: Either create a graph displaying yearly temperature and rainfall, or include a graph from online and write a description of it in your own words (e.g. Most of the annual rainfall is in July)
7. The People – Include: 1. What languages are spoken? 2. What is education like? 3. Daily and common food? 4. What sports are enjoyed? 5. What kind of jobs do they have? 6. What is the average wage? 7. What is the typical transport used? 8. Include any other interesting information about daily life in your country. How does this affect their everyday life?

For the next 3 weeks you will be completing your country study assingment.
You will be talking about this in class over the coming days. You will be selecting a country around the world which is considerably different to our own.
By the end of this week you should have the following sections researched and be on the way to putting your assignment together.
1. Population - record the population
2. Flag – draw or colour (by hand) the flag and explain what the flag means/represents
3. World position – show location on world map, label neighbouring countries, main cities and any surrounding oceans/seas. Include the co-ordinates of the capital city (latitude and longitude). You may hand draw/trace your map, or you can use an unlabelled map from online. You must add in all of the information and labels yourself!

For your first oral presentation this year, you will be interviewing someone you know that has immigrated to Australia. This person must have been old enough to remember what it was like before they moved to Australia and it can't be yourself. Once you have interviewed them, you will write a presentation telling the story of their immigration journey. You will have three weeks to complete this so please speak to your teacher if you need help. You have until Friday this week to let Miss Hall know if you don't have anyone to interview and she will organise someone for you.
On Monday 12th August you must have completed "Step 2" on the flow chart. Please bring in your interview questions to show your teacher that you are up to date. You can however complete more then this.

Inside character traits: personality traits that can be inferred from the persons or the characters thoughts, feelings, actions and dialogue.
Outside character traits: also known as external traits, they are the physical traits that can be seen by others such as appearance, clothing or gestures.
In class you will be choosing a character and identifying their inside and outside character traits. For homework, choose another character and draw a picture similar to the example below and similar to what you did in class.

The Jackson Taylor writing competition is on again!
You will have the next two weeks to plan, write and edit an entry into the competition. You do not need to submit it to the competition directly, we will decide that after the homework is due :)
The topic is “If you could make one speech in Parliament – what would it be?”
Be creative and think outside the box!

At minimum, you are expected to have in your homework book a plan and a rough copy/draft of your entry.

What are Mad Libs? Mad Libs are stories with words removed and replaced by blank spaces. One player acts as the “reader” and asks the other players, who haven’t seen the story, to fill in the blanks with adjectives, nouns, exclamations, colours, adjectives, and more. These words are inserted into the blanks and then the story is read aloud to hilarious results. Add the words you just wrote down in your book into the template below and read the story you have created.
NOW, it is time to write your own story with gaps that a partner will fill in next week! Your story should be about half a page and include around 10 gaps.

Find an article about the local, state or federal government. You could use the local paper, newspapers or the internet (kidsnews is great!) to find your article.
