As students progress through each level, they first learn and master the focus sounds, then begin decoding VC and CVC words using reading strategies, gradually building up to CCVCC words within that level. They will also practise a set of leveled sight words at each stage. In addition, students will complete writing activities that focus on correct letter formation, accurate spelling of words, and sentence building using decoding strategies and Colourful Semantics to strengthen their understanding of sentence structure.
The activities provided draw on resources from the Decodable Readers Australia (DRA) program used at school, ensuring that home practice directly aligns with classroom learning and supports consistent skill development.
