At Edgars Creek Secondary College, our Digital Technology program is built around three key aims:
develop students' understanding of the complexities and possibilities of digital technology;
providing students with transferrable digital skills that they can use in any workplace; and
increasing students' ability to think critically and creatively to solve problems.
In Year 7, our focus in Digital Technology is centred on software development, specifically looking at app and game design. We explore existing apps, examining their features and determining how they meet the needs of their customers.
We begin creating simple games, some of which can be viewed on this website, before students propose, design and create their very own playable game app.
In Year 8, our focus on another key area of Digital Technology - robotics. We explore the origins of robotics, examining how they developed over time and the features that they all have in common. We investigate their multitude of uses and designs, from human-like robots to those that help 'under the radar' in our everyday lives.
Students then propose, design and create their very own robot prototype aimed at addressing or solving a real-world problem.
Digital Technology is more than just about coding. It helps young minds think creatively and critically via mediums that they are interacting with each and every day.
Ultimately, it provides students with the opportunity to problem solve, experiment and thinking outside the box.
