Click here to see a copy of our Mathematics Handbook, which shows the strategies we use to teach number and algebra concepts to the children at Bridgewood.
The Bridgewood Mathsematics Handbook outlines how we teach number and algebra concepts to the students as they enter various stages of learning. It is designed to be used across the whole school, and to show how students build on their prior knowledge to understand new concepts and incremenntally improve their abilities in different areas of mathematics. Documenting our strategies allows us to teach in a consistent way across the school which benefits children to continually strengthen their understanding of concepts with confidence, as there are clear links between past, present and future learning.
When looking at the resources in the Mathematics Handbook, you can see the strategies become increasingly complex and efficient as the learning progresses. The teachers at Bridgewood choose appropriate strategies for the level of understanding that a student has regardless of their year level. This is called point-of-need teaching. Once we've established where a student is capable, we can build from there to help them advance to the next stage of their learning.
