Can I use the before and after school program?
Camp Australia will operate during remote learning. Please contact them directly for their latest information on care arrangements.
As per the recent State Government advice, all students who can learn from home must stay at home. Complying with this direction, only children that are not able to be supervised at home on certain days and no other arrangements can be made or vulnerable children should access onsite care.
How will social distancing be tackled?
Students will be supervised in smaller groups, group contact games will not be played such as footy and chasey, food serving will be limited to one educator to avoid multiple handling and the 1.5m distancing will be in place to avoid close contact.
During remote learning at home, does my child have to ‘attend’?
Yes. It is a legal requirement for students to ‘attend’ school, we are required by the Department of Education and Training to record student attendance every day. If your child is unable to ‘attend’ to school tasks, eg. due to illness, that you please record this via the usual process on COMPASS.
This will support the teacher in understanding why a task may not have been submitted.
What if I need to send my child to school?
As with other remote learning periods, our school will provide on-site supervision for students in the following categories:
· Children where both parents and/or carers are authorised workers who cannot work from home, work for an essential provider and where no other supervision arrangements can be made:
o Where there are two parents/carers, both must be authorised workers, working outside the home in order for their children to be eligible for on-site provision
o For single parents/ carers, the authorised worker must be working outside the home in order for their children to be eligible for on-site provision.
· Children experiencing vulnerability, including:
o children in out-of-home care
o children deemed vulnerable by a government agency, funded family or family violence service, and is assessed as requiring education and care outside the family home
o children identified by a school or early childhood service as vulnerable, including via referral from a government agency, or funded family or family violence service, homeless or youth justice service or mental health or other health service.
Will there be an office staff member on-site each day?
It is likely that there will be someone in the school office each day, however, contacting the office via email is the best option: blackburn.lake.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au
Will my child be doing the same thing at home as children who attend on-site?
The learning program delivered on-site will be the same as the learning program delivered to students undertaking remote learning. Students learning on-site will be supervised by a teacher with the support of educational aides, but follow the teaching and learning program provided by their classroom teacher.
If I’m using my own device what downloads do I need?
You will need the following Google apps:
Classroom
Drive
Sheets
Slides
Doc
Can I get a device from school to borrow?
Yes. We can supply you with a device (IPAD). If you need to borrow one please contact the office on blackburn.lake.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au
Children are not permitted to pick them up.
Please discuss the following with your child:
· No social media access
· Students must adhere to previously signed BLPS acceptable device use Agreement
· If connecting to your own internet, it is your responsibility to filter content (DET and BLPS filtering software are reduced when devices are connected to networks other than the school)
What is Google Classroom?
The Google Classrooms have been set up for the students as a communication space between their peers and their teachers.
Students will access learning content during Remote Learning via:
§ Google Classroom Homeroom eg. 3A
§ Google Classroom Year Level Subject Homerooms eg. Year 3 - Writing
§ Google Classroom Specialist Homerooms eg. PE - Year 3
***Please note that we will not be using the Year Level Google Websites during Remote Learning 2.0.
Google Classroom spaces allow Year Level and Specialist teachers to directly communicate with students via “chat’ and answer any questions they have in any subject area.
Google Classroom also has the capacity for students to upload work via the “Classwork tab” in each of the specific subject classrooms. Students can upload work via the “Classwork” tab if their teacher has assigned them a task within any of their subject specific classrooms.
Application Form
A link to the Google application form for BLPS on-site attendance will be communicated through COMPASS each Tuesday for the following week. If you feel you have grounds to request your child attend school you must complete the on-line google survey by Thursday each week.
In line with Department of Education and in an effort for the school to manage staffing arrangements (staff also encouraged not to be on site) no child is permitted to be on the school grounds without an official application form.
Application forms will be released each Tuesday, and must be submitted COB Thursday for approval for attendance the following week.
The following protocols will be strictly applied:
Children will have their temperature taken upon arrival and must thoroughly sanitize their hands prior to entering the school building.
Parents and/or carers will not be permitted to enter the school grounds and should either wait with their child prior to 9:00am or enrol their child in OHSC club - Before and after school care program.
Students are to be collected from school at 3:30pm sharp. This includes students attending OHSClub.
Students with approval to be at school must attend in full school uniform.
Students at school will be supervised to complete the same remote learning platform as the students at home.
Children will be encouraged to adhere to social distancing.
Students will not be in their usual classrooms or be supervised by their classroom teacher.
The specialist programs will be delivered from the online platform as well.
Students must bring to school with them their hat, snack, lunch, any medication (asthma / anaphylaxis) and their Remote Learning material.
As a parent , can I get access to my child's google classroom, via my gmail account?
No, the Google Classroom is for students and teachers to communicate. As per the parent handbook:
"general communication is via email or COMPASS. As a parent/carer, please email the class teacher if you have questions related to, learning tasks, student illness and wellbeing concerns. Teachers will communicate anything specific with parents through email and COMPASS as well."
Where do I find my child’s log in details?
These were supplied to students. If your child has lost this information you will need to contact their classroom teacher. Teacher’s will be able to share these with you.
How do I access my child’s learning program?
Weekly lessons, tasks and activities will be uploaded to your child’s Google Classroom Homeroom, Year Level Subject Homerooms and Year Level Specialist Homerooms each Friday afternoon for the upcoming five days. To acknowledge various family circumstances, including family access to technology, parental work commitments etc, we want to be flexible with the weekly learning allowing students and families to work through the tasks on the days, and at the times that suit them. If you require hard copies of learning tasks please contact your child’s classroom teacher to arrange.
Curriculum Content will be communicated in the following forms:
- Google Classroom Homeroom – Weekly Timetable
- Google Classroom Homeroom – Daily Schedule
- Google Classroom Year Level Subject Homerooms – Weekly Lessons (Google slide format) and Resources (printable)
Who do I contact if my child doesn't understand the task?
Students are encouraged to ask lesson related questions in the relevant Google Classroom Subject space. Alternatively, parents can contact their child's teacher directly via their email address for any questions regarding specific tasks or lesson content. Please use the online Question Form for any general questions about the Remote Learning platform or tools.
Will all students get assigned tasks?
All year levels will assign Learning Tasks via Google Classroom Subject Classroom spaces. At least 5 tasks will be identified for submission each week.
1 Maths
1 Reading
1 Writing
1 Well being
1 Integrated
What is the community support site ?
Parents can also easily access this information by following BLPS learning from home link: https://sites.google.com/education.vic.gov.au/blpslearninghome/home
Will my child have the opportunity to video conference with their teacher and classmates
Yes. All students will have the opportunity to engage in a minimum of:
Daily webex morning greeting
2 x Whole Class Webex session
1 x Small Group Webex session
Webex details will me made available by teacher's in Google Classroom Homeroom's on the relevant days.
Can my child email their teacher?
Individual teachers will not respond to students’ personal emails. If a student has a question about a particular learning area or task then the question needs to be directed through their Google Classroom Homeroom. A student’s question and the teacher’s answer to their question will help many students who will often ask the same question.
Can my child chat to their friends through the Google Classroom platform?
No, Google Classroom is not a social media platform. In order to keep the learning moving along for all students, unrelated conversation on the Google Classroom Application will be ‘muted’ by classroom teachers. (Students who have been muted will still be able to access all content and communicate with their teacher.)
Can my child’s work be directly sent to the teachers email?
Please encourage your children to upload their assigned learning task work only. This work should be uploaded to the various subject classrooms as a response to an assigned learning task.
Will my child get a reply immediately if they ask a question?
During the week teachers will be required, as they normally are under the Victorian Government Schools Agreement, to have a number of weekly meetings whereby they plan and monitor classroom learning collaboratively. Please be aware that your child’s teacher may not be available during these times to respond immediately to your child’s request but will respond in as timely a manner as is possible. We found during Term 2 Remote Learning that many student questions were able to be answered successfully by their peers in these spaces.
What if my child can’t get everything done?
Do the best you can, we understand that this is a difficult time for everyone. Ideally we'd like students to engage in Reading, Writing and Mathematics.
Who do I contact if I’m unsure about the learning tasks my child has been allocated?
Please encourage your child to ask questions about their learning via Google Classrooms. If needed you can contact your child’s teacher directly via email if the technical difficulty relates directly to the learning material.
For further information about technical difficulties contact your child's year level Remote Learning Leaders are:
Year 6: Duncan Wise: wise.duncan.f@edumail.vic.gov.au
Year 5: Natasha Rodrigues: Rodrigues.Natasha.A@edumail.vic.gov.au
Year 4: Shari Lo Presti: shari.lopresti@education.vic.gov.au

My child is getting overwhelmed by all the assigned tasks, what if they can’t get it all done?
We have listened to your feedback. Teachers will be assigned 5 Learning Tasks across all curriculum areas each week. The primary purpose of teachers assigning tasks is for teachers to be able to monitor student learning. Assigning learning tasks in Google Classroom Subject spaces allows for student submitted work to be automatically placed into a relevant folder. This work can then be easily tracked and marked by the presiding teacher and feedback given to students.
My child doesn’t understand the task?
Please refer to the learning intention and success criteria given in the lesson outlines. The success criteria will outline what it is that the child needs to demonstrate during their independent working time. Ask your child, if possible, to restate the learning intention and success criteria for each task prior to attempting it so that you are clear that they are clear what they are doing. This helps the children clarify their understanding of what is required and they will have more hope of completing the task independently.
If I don’t have a printer how do I print up material for my child?
Please contact your teacher if you are unable to print any resources your child may require for their learning.
What's changed?
Most things are the same as remote learning 2.0 (2020) and remote learning 3.0 (Feb 2021)
Webex: In addition to scheduled whole class and small group webex sessions, all students will now have a daily morning webex at 9:00 to touch base with their teacher and find out about the learning tasks for the day.
Google Classroom: All your child’s learning material will be housed in their Google Classroom.
Google Slides: All lesson content will be delivered to students via Interactive Google Slides made available in Google Classroom Year Level Subject spaces each week., The Google slides will contain lessons material, instructional videos and printable resources for your convenience.
Weekly Schedules will be available in Google Classroom Homerooms each Friday afternoon.
Specialist Day: We have timetabled a specialist day for each year level
Year Level Specific Specialist Google Classroom spaces: To streamline our Specialist process, students will have a Year Level Specialist Classroom for example Year 3 – PE, Year 3 - Art etc
What's stayed the same?
Google Classroom: This will look the same as it did before. We will have Class Homerooms – eg. 3A. We will also continue with year Level Subject specific Homerooms – eg. Year 3 – Reading
Assigned Tasks: Year levels across the school will assign 5 Learning Tasks each week in total and At this stage specialists will not assign tasks. This will drastically reduce student’s “To Do Lists” as we know this caused some students stress when the lists were getting large.
Community Support website: will continue to be available to support our community. On this site you will be able to access:
- Remote Learning information for your family
- Technical Support which provides instructions and videos to help you support your child to navigate Google Classrooms, Google Slides, Assigned Tasks and Webex sessions.
- Frequently asked questions about the Remote Learning program at BLPS
- Mental Health and Well-being information for the whole family
What do I need to do?
Read the Remote Learning Parent Handbook when it's released! This will have a myriad of information about the program and how it can work for you.
Please also explore the Community Support website d and watch the support videos.
Ensure that you still have your child’s Department of Education GSuite user credentials.
Please also check that your child can still access their Google Classroom account. If needed, please assist your child to log into their Department of Education GSuite account (instructions on how to do this are on the ‘Google Education’ page of our Community Support website).
We would also love it if you could assist your child to access their Google Classroom Homeroom and see what their learning might look like each week.
Download Google Classroom, Google Slides, Google Docs and Google Sheets for tablet devices from the App Store.
Where can I find support if I need it?
In addition to the Google Classroom, a Parent Support Website with a range of videos and FAQ resources to support parents in supporting their children can be found on the following link.
