Message from Sue Dyos- School Principal

From Wednesday 15 April our school will be moving to remote online learning. Our school will use the following programs and technology - Google classroom.

Our school expects students to continue to abide by the school’s policies about student behaviour when learning in an online setting. We will continue to follow the school’s student engagement policy when responding to inappropriate student behaviour online.

Students must continue to follow the Acceptable Use of Technology Agreements provided or signed at the start of 2020.

Students should contact me by email if they experience inappropriate behaviour online. (You may need to help your child with this)

On-site School Attendance

Schools will continue to provide on-site programs for students who are not able to be supervised at home and for whom no other arrangements can be made during regular school hours. Onsite programs will also be provided for vulnerable students whose health and safety would be at risk without access to a suitable learning environment. These students will be identified by the school.

An On-site Attendance Form must be completed by Friday 3.30pm each week to allow us to plan for staffing for the following week. Please send your completed form to Jo in the office at Metcalfe.jo.m@edumail.vic.gov.au

Please note if there is an adult at home, you can work from home or alternate arrangements can be made, the student must stay home.

Where we cannot get teaching staff to attend, we will attempt to get a CRT - casual relief teacher.

Students who must attend school will be supervised as they undertake the same learning as other children will be doing from home. The playground equipment will not be available to students and break times may look different to what students are used to. Social distancing will be observed by any staff and students attending school.

Staff and students will be provided with hand sanitiser.

The Department is currently having signage made up to close all school playgrounds. Please refrain from using the school premises, in particular playgrounds.

Teachers will be available online from 9.00am-3.30pm.

Loaning out laptops - we provided an opportunity for loaning laptops out to families who did not technology at home. The Government has said there are a number of laptops available for loan but these are primarily for students at disadvantaged schools who have no access to technology. We are still happy to loan out our school’s laptops but this is only if your child does not have access to a device. Your child will not be required to sit at their device all day so it is possible for students to share a laptop at home.

We will keep you informed about school matters via Konnective and Parent Reps. Please let us know if you would prefer to be kept informed by a different channel.

Please contact me at dyos.susan.s@ edumail.vic.gov.au if you have any questions or concerns about the move to remote online learning. When emailing, please put your contact number in your correspondence.

The big message I’d like to share with you is that we are all working through the transition to remote learning together. The learning in week 6 will look different to the learning in week 1. Our main priority over the coming weeks is community wellbeing.

Keep safe and wishing you all a Happy Easter.

Regards

Sue Dyos

Your child has their own username and password to access the Classroom. They also have the classroom code. If you have not received this, please email your teacher.

Communication Etiquette

On Google Classroom, students are able to 'comment' but not 'post' - which means they can only respond to a task or teacher question. They can't generate their own discussions. This is necessary to avoid using our learning platform as a social media forum. The site is purely for educational discussions.

** We have also posted this to the student page **

We expect the same good manners and good communication that we expect at school.

Mrs Dyos and all staff can see all comments made by students. If we deem comments to be inappropriate, parents will be notified.

  • Remember, you are not chatting with your friends - you are talking to your principal, teacher and class mates

  • Be polite and kind to everyone, including the teachers

  • Do not use put downs (eg. this is boring)

  • If you are frustrated - ask for help nicely. We are doing the best we can.

  • Use good grammar (not text slang - eg. wot's up?)

What you can expect from ACPS

Google Classroom

Formal home learning lessons will commence after the Easter holidays (Wednesday 15th April). Until then, the Google Classroom will only have holiday suggestions. It will not have clearly planned lessons by the teachers. We have limited the students' ability to comment until the Term 2 starts.

At 8am each weekday, the teachers will upload essential learning for the day. The students will be able to work on class content at home. Students can also interact with and submit work to their teacher to enable the essential feedback required to ensure their learning can continue to progress.

We will provide the flexibility for the work to be completed at times which suit individual students and families. The work is expected to be completed by Sunday.

If required, we will provide paper copies. The logistics of this we are still working out.

The easiest way for your child to work with these tools on an iPad is to download each individual Google app. It is possible to have multiple children using one device ... simply select the circular profile (top right hand corner) and choose 'add an account'.
