Duration One Unit
Brief Description
Students will develop their practical skills in Music Performance (Instruments), Music Technology (recording) and Music Creation (Composition). Students will choose an area of interest to focus on and develop a project throughout the semester (such as an individual or group performance, a recording session in the studio, or a music creation).
A significant portion of this subject will focus on music theory fundamentals, preparing students for VCE Music Units 1&2. Basic use of music technology will also be taught, creating pathways into VET Music Sound Production. Students who undertake instrumental music studies, or those who have an interest in music production will benefit from this subject. Students will be given opportunities to partake in school excursions or participate in workshops.

Pathways This unit will equip students with the necessary skills for a strong start in VCE Unit 1/2 Music in Year 11.
Cost to Student: Recommendation that student is undertaking Instrumental Music lessons for your chosen instrument. This could be either within the school instrumental music program, or externally.

Art
Duration One Unit
Brief Description
In year 10 students develop skills used in art making through a variety of art forms. These may include painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, mixed media and printmaking. Students will learn how to explore and develop artistic concepts. Using research based on a variety of artists and art movements, students will develop a range of ideas and strategies that will assist with creative problem solving. They go on excursions to art galleries to examine how artworks are curated and analyse artworks from different historical and cultural contexts, including artworks by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists.

Media
Duration One Unit
Brief Description
Students learn about the individual stages of video production developing skills in planning, producing and editing video. They will apply their understanding of media codes and conventions within the design and creation of media productions. As students engage with media products, they will be exposed to media terminology and sophisticated media language, which they will be required to use in their written tasks. Additionally, students will be required to complete post-production stages of video development, and as such consider camera angles, duration of audio clips and editing runtime, complementing numeracy development.

Written tasks: scriptwriting, storyboarding and development of media product.
Pathways
This subject offers foundations for filmmaking and can support students in any future career involving digital media, communication skills, marketing and journalism. This would also support VCE Units 1/2 Media

Visual Communication Design
Duration One Unit
Brief Description
In year 10 students develop practical and analytical skills used in a range of design fields. These may include architectural design, interior design, graphic design, and product design. Students develop skills in research, concept development and production of final presentations relating to real-world problems. They explore a range of design styles and movements to develop their own ideas and experiment with manual and digital methods to develop a design folio. They go on excursions to art galleries to analyse designs from different historical and cultural contexts, including works by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander designers.

Drama
Duration One Unit
Brief Description
In Drama: Performance Making, students tell stories, explore ideas and communicate meaning through the practice of performance-making. Students explore a range of performance styles from different cultures and influential Theatre Practitioners to devise a script and ensemble. Public speaking, team and collaborative development are skills students will develop from this subject. Students are required to interpret a range of scripts and stimulus material, utilising a specific vocabulary and command words, developing skills in literacy. Additionally, students are required to consider timing and pace, along with measurements of space when performing, complementing numeracy development.
