Assistant Principal – Curriculum Programs and Professional Learning
Welcome to your second year in Middle School in 2026. Over the coming weeks you will be making some important decisions about your learning program for next year, and to some extent, for future years. It is important that you read this Course Selection Handbook closely with your parents/carers, be attentive and focused at the information assemblies and the Curriculum Expo, and seek further information from the Careers Team or the Curriculum Area Leaders of the subjects you are interested in selecting.
After reading the Handbook and receiving the Course Selection Sheet, you should discuss initial choices with your parents/guardians. Career and counselling advice is available through the Careers Team led by Ms Lucinda Huffer. You are encouraged to visit the Careers Room in B Block at lunchtimes and after school to use the available resources.
The Year 10 Curriculum offers an even wider range of opportunities in your subject choices than Year 9. You will undertake two core units for the whole year and three core units for one semester. You will then have the opportunity to select elective units or apply to complete an Advanced Placement (a Unit 1 &2 subject which you study while you are in Year 10). In order to be accepted into an Advanced Placement, you must have very good grades and consistent learning behaviours across all your subjects in Year 9.
As you move into this next phase of your pathway education, you will be expected to take greater responsibility for your own learning. This starts now as you consider subject selections to make up your course of study for 2026. The elective unit offerings and advanced placements will provide opportunities for you to explore areas of interest, and provide some background for subject selection in your senior years. It is for these reasons you must make wise choices, based on carefully considered information and advice provided by the Careers Team and course counsellors.
Year 10 elective units (with the exception of Languages) are not prerequisites for VCE subjects.
In this Handbook you will find outlines for each of the subject units which are provisionally offered for Year 10 in 2026. You will also find a list of subjects you may apply to undertake as an advanced placement.
