Humanities
Duration One Unit
Year 10 Humanities incorporates the study of History with Ethical and Cultural capabilities, including depth studies in both the Holocaust and Rights and Freedoms. The course examines how social and political upheavals after World War I acted as a catalyst for global conflict and the genocide of the Holocaust. Students will also explore Australia’s journey from colonial dispossession to landmark reforms such as the 1967 Referendum and the Mabo decision. Through critical readings, primary-source analysis and reflective discussion, students will develop a nuanced understanding of how societies confront injustice, remember trauma, and pursue equity.
Students will study in depth the following topics
The Holocaust - Students will examine the causes of World War II, including the spread of new political ideologies and social changes driven by economic crisis, tracing how these forces enabled state-sponsored persecution and genocide in the Holocaust.
Rights and Freedoms - Students study the significance of the struggle for Indigenous rights in Australia (including the Stolen Generations, the right to vote and land rights) through to present-day outcomes for First Nations Australians.
