Prep/1 News
Term 3 is flying by, and we’ve been having a wonderful time with our learning and concert preparations.
In Literacy, we’ve been focusing on Procedural “How to” Writing. Do you know how to wash a Woolly Mammoth? The Prep/1s do! With just a few simple steps (and some very creative drawings), the students turned their instructions into a comic book full of fun and laughter. We also used our procedural writing skills to create treasure maps and instructions to help us track down hidden Pirate treasure, linking in with our maths learning on directions and map making.
In Mathematics, we’ve been exploring how to describe the position of objects using prepositions. Students practiced giving each other directions around the classroom with instructions such as “walk between the two tables” or “crawl under the desk.” This was followed by a focus on 2D shapes, where students learned to identify and classify different shapes—finishing off with a very lively game of 2D Shape Bingo!
In Inquiry, we are investigating materials, their properties, and their everyday uses. Last week, we tested which materials would make the best raincoat by sticking different materials onto paper dolls and using pipettes to test how waterproof they were. The results were both surprising and lots of fun!
We are also in the final stages of preparing for the School Concert. The Prep/1s have been working hard on their song, dance, and First Nations story. Thank you to all families who have brought in costume pieces—please let us know if you need any help with this.
Thank you for your continued support with all of our learning. We can’t wait to share more with you soon!
Warm regards,
Erin, Luke, and Ms Anderson
Written work to come next week! We had an amazing time and there were som many fantastic learning activities!
We have had a busy fortnight in the 5/6 Class as students experience the development a multi-disciplinary theatre production from the ground up. We are adapting a classic, developing ideas, dances, songs then linking them with narration and play to create a unique local story. All respect and thanks to Frog and Kellie who have been instrumental in bringing it all together.
During writing we have been working on procedural texts including explanations, rules and codes of conduct. Your students have been linking our chemical science curriculum by reading and viewing about the properties of fundamental elements; Hydrogen, Phosphorus, Oxygen, Sulphur, Nitrogen and Carbon. Our own experiments and the ones we witness can demonstrate how these combinations of elements create the universe we inhabit. Thank you to Orlo’s family for bringing in a Periodic Table so we can see the complexities of how these elements are classified.
In Maths we are consolidating Multiplication and Division facts using large numbers and decimals. Our process skills are building as is our confidence and stamina.
Soccer Skills Clinics with Kasey Sparks have brilliant and fun. Kasey brings with her a great program and a dynamic energy that has been enjoyed by all the year levels. Thank you to Patsy for organising the funding to make this happen!
Our Grade 5/6 friendship group have organised the Colour Me Purple Day with a nail salon and purple free dress to celebrate diversity and inclusion.
Attendance has been chequered in 5/6 and we would love to see you all more consistently. Knowing your lines, position and choreography will make the concert experience more enjoyable for everyone!
Hey folks, we are full steam ahead with planning our fundraising music trivia night scheduled for Saturday 18 October. We will reveal a bit more creative detail in the coming weeks but for now we are looking for some commitment of help as follows....
Raffle - Alice and Laura are busily organising raffle prizes, if you have any prizes or contacts of people who can give prizes please be in touch with either of them. We are aiming to have all prizes finalised by 15 September so that raffle tickets can go home with kids and be distributed to local sellers in that week before school holidays.
Helpers needed for day and night of the event....
Catering - Clare and Taryn will be organising the catering for the night, we are planning supper platters to be served to each table as part of the ticket price. We would like parents to help prepare these platters on the day of the event.
Decoration - we have had offers of help to decorate the venue on the afternoon of the event and are looking for a couple more people to help with this.
Bar - as we have some great wine and beer associates in our midst as parents of the school we will be hitting them up for some grog that we can sell on the night 🤞 (pending liquor license, work in progress). We will need people to work the bar on the night and hopefully some with RSAs.
General help - we will need general help on the night with greeting, serving food, selling raffle tickets etc.
Please let Clare or Taryn know if you are able to help with any of the above jobs on the day or night of the event. We realise we also need people buying tickets and joining a table at the event so the more helpers we have, we can make shifts shorter so people can also enjoy the night.
That's all for now folks! Hope you can help out in some way and we look forward to hearing from you.
