Newsletter 22nd May 2025
Chewton Primary School is situated on Djaara Country!
We acknowledge the Dja Dja Wurrung people, the custodians and caretakers of the land. We thank them for the care they have taken and continue to take of Country: the rivers, mountains, trees and animals. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
We follow Bunjil's teachings: Care for self , Care for others, Care for Country
We commit to Be Brave and Make Change.
We will be a voice for generations.
Now, more than ever.

Staff are currently reviewing our communications process and we would like feedback from families about how we can improve our home/ school communication.
Currently we have information about the learning in each classroom in the newsletter every fortnight.
School events are communicated through the newsletter and via Compass
We meet with parents regularly, engage in the yard after school, are available for informal chats and have meetings at pre-arranged times with parents and carers.
We have student support group meetings for students who are funded under the Disability Inclusion Profile, for students working over 12 months ahead or below expected level, for students needing social and emotional support, for Koorie students and for students who are in Out of Home Care.
Teachers and parents communicate via email, phone or informally at drop off and pick up.
Reports are available via the Compass portal at the end of Term 2 and at the end of Term 4.
We have parent/ teacher/ student conferences early in Term 1 and in Term 4 for feedback and goal setting.
Our school community follow our Child Safe Code of Conduct, listen respectfully to each other and treat each other with unconditional positive regard: we know we are all working together and want the best for our children.
Do you have suggestions on how we can improve our communications?
This year the interest for enrolments has been amazing! We currently have a wait list and will follow the DET policy for managing enrolments. All younger siblings and people who live in our local area will be guaranteed a place but we ask enrolment forms to come in as soon as possible. If you know anyone who is interested, please ask them to get in touch as soon as possible.
We had a lovely bbq lunch around the fire circle today to thank Rob and say farewell. Rob has been at Chewton for 13 years. He started as a parent volunteer in the garden and then took on maintenance jobs and then became the maintenance person and school cleaner. We don't know what we are going to do without you Rob. You have always come at the drop of a hat to help with emergencies: broken pipes, blocked toilets etc.
Rob has also done our regular fire preparation as well. Children spoke from the heart today to thank Rob for his great cleaning, help with our bike rides and for fixing things around the school.
We gifted Rob a fancy camping chair and a camping gift voucher. We know he is eager to hit the road! Farewell and thanks Rob.
Photos to follow next week.
Thanks so much to everyone who has already volunteered. We need a few more people and also lots of walkers! Bring friends, grandparents and wear red, black and yellow
