Chewton Primary School is situated on Djaara Country.
We acknowledge the Dja Dja Wurrung people, the custodians and caretakers of the land. We thank them for the care they have taken and continue to take of Country: the rivers, mountains, trees and animals. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. This week Chewton Primary won the Victorian Sustainability REsource Smart award for School of the Year. What an incredible effort from our whole community.
the key areas that the judges selected were our close work with Nalderun, aunty Kerri and Djaara to bring Indigenous perspectives and learning processes into our teaching and learning, the student led Dog Poop protest waterways initiative and the revegetation projects with Post Office Hill Action Group and Connecting Country.
It is an incredible achievement and recognition of the work that all our staff, students and parents do to make sure we are continually improving our actions in this area.
We were only able to take 8 students to the MCG on the day, and they all participated and spoke beautifully. Congratulations to Eidi, Millie, Emilia, Freda, Edan, James, Quincy R and Hunter. The rest of the school watched the ceremony on livestream and the excitement and screams when we were announce winners could almost be heard at the MCG.
WIN news, Gold FM and ABC radio have all been interested. You can watch the tv segment here.
Listen to ABC radio interview here.
Waiting to hear the announcement!

Parks Vcitoria are meeting with our students this week to discuss signage along the creek. Congratulations to Quincy, Eidi, Millie, Emilia and Freda for outstanding work! Please keep a look out at the post office and Red Hill for the donation tin to help the students raise funds for compostable dog poop bags!
Muesli Bars can be purchased. Distribution will start when we have enough customers, hopefully next week, so get your orders in! You can bring in up to $5 and then your child can get a muesli bar each day from the Green Team at recess at the Outdoor Kitchen. Please bring cash to the office. We will have vegan and gluten free option available very soon!
We are hoping you are considering a muesli bar rather than bikkies or a bar from the supermarket!
There was lots of interest at the Resource Smart awards in our unique solution to soft plastic waste. We are keen to see what difference we can make to your wallets and your landfill bins! Thanks for your support.
Feedback from Castlemaine North Primary about the Reconciliation Walk. Fantastic to see the impact of our work in the broader community!
4/6/24
Dear Bernadette and CPS students and community,
On behalf of the Castlemaine North PS senior students and staff, I would like to say THANK YOU, for the opportunity to participate in the Reconciliation Walk last week. We were so impressed with the care that was taken to curate the learning stations; the posters and videos were informative and thought-provoking.
We appreciated the generosity and patience of the tour guides at each station; they were enthusiastic and welcoming for each group that came along – a huge effort, being out in the weather all day!
We are inspired to continue our learning here at CNPS, in the spirit of Reconciliation, all year round. I have attached a picture of a display board that our Gr 5/6 students made last week, with commitments towards healing and respect for Indigenous Australians.
Thank you again, for inviting us along to share your amazing work. Sam Chapman.
