Newsletter 23rd May 2024
Chewton Primary School is situated on Djaara Country.
We acknowledge the Dja Dja Wurrung people, the custodians and caretakers of the land. We thank them for the care they have taken and continue to take of Country: the rivers, mountains, trees and animals. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. We follow Bunjil's teaching: Care for self, care for others, care for Country.
We commit to Be Brave and Make Change.
We will be a voice for generations.

This morning over 150 students and teachers from Chewton Primary, CSC, Castlemaine Primary, Castlemaine North, Winters Flat and Campbells Creek schools all joined together to mark Sorry Day. Aunty Kerri gave a Welcome to Country and Smoking ceremony, then asked First Nations youth leaders Grace, Chase and Anthony to share their thoughts on how to make our schools better places for Indigenous students. Student leaders from all the schools spoke with heartfelt words and a clear call to action for all of us: students and teachers. All students and adults present then wrote a personal commitment on a leaf which was placed on our banner Now More than Ever. this will be hung on the fence at Me Mandook Galk next week.
Remember, you can join us at the Community sorry Day ceremony at the Botanical Gardens on Sunday at 10am near the children's playground. An audio recording of the student speeches will be played as part of the ceremony.
A big thanks to Aunty Kerri, Grace, Chase, Anthony, Kaz and all our student leaders who shared their reflections.
Quincy, Freda, Millie and Emilia went down to Leanganook Track today with Serena and put up a sign on Carmel's fence to ask people to be responsible for picking up after their dog. Look out in next week's Express for the full article!
